Self Preservation the key
From the Bhakti List Archives

Dear Sriman Mani,
Thanks to Bhakti net-work, I was able to find a Srivaishnava priest (Sri
Srinivasa Bhattar) to our temple in Cincinnati, within a matter of days in
1995. He is still with us and the impact he has made on preserving our
tradition in Cincinnati is remarkable. His father, grand father and
brother-in-law were among the priests who performed Kumbhabhishekam in 1997.
He has touched not just SrivaishNavA's here (we are very small number) but
Hindu's in general. When he got stuck in Columbus, just before arriving for
interview in Cincinnati, it was again a Bhakti net-work contact, Sri Sriram
Ramanujam who took the effort to log-in 200 miles, just so that Bhattar could
attend the interview in Cincinnati.
Thanks to Bhakti net work, I was able to procure many useful publications
which include:
Entire Vedam recordings by Veda Prasara Samiti, Mullti lingual and multi
vedic Sahdhyavandanam book of Thilasthanam, Divya desham publication, Sri
Ramanuja CD, Deshika prabandhm and Stotrams, etc and etc, besides so much
knowledge and information I have directly gained through postings. I got
connected with many relatives, especially Sri Srini and Sri Murali. We
visited them last yeat Summer.
I also met many Bhagavathaas through this group, for example, Sri Anbil swamy
and Sri Rengi.
I am truly indebted to your kainkaryam. However, I am not sure whether many
of these would have been possible under the current format, which forbids
solicitations. I think a bit of flexibility in accomodating peripheral needs
of SrivaishNava community in particular and Hindus in general would make the
group more useful. In my opinion we need to be bit catholic and not too
rigid. This should also be a perfect place for people to find life partners
as well as livelihood. Even Srimad Thirukudandai Andavan Swamy (KaNNan
swamy), who did sancharam only on foot, took many initiatives in playing the
role of a match maker as well as settling family disputes. Sure NAMA is
there, but why put all eggs in one basket ?
I guess we need to be bit more pragmatic and take a more holistic approach
and not make the group too isolated.
Sincerely,
dAsan,
K. Sreekrishna Tatachar
