Pranams Vaishnavas

I have a doubt regarding Baranyasam.  What is it? 
When should we do this?  Is it an anga of prapatti? 
Can anyone clarify this.

Secondly, who is Pillai Perumal Iyengar?  Whose
sishyar?  Any charitram?
