Srimad Venkata Lakshmana Yativaraya namah. Dear Bhagavatottamas, namaskarams. Let us see how the same two thaniyans can be used to praise all the three SEsha incarnations viz. Bhagavad rAmAnuja, SrISailAnantArya and SrI varavara muni. 1. SrISailESa dayApAtram dhI bhaktyAdi guNArNavam yatIndra pravaNam vandE ramya jAmAtaram munim for Sri Ramanuja: SrISailESa = SrISaila pUrNa (periya Thirumalai nambi) yatIndra pravaNa = here yatIndra has to refer to yAmunAchArya, as Acharya Ramanuja had great respect for him. ramya jAmAtA = beautiful bridegroom, like Lord rAmachandra and Lord lakshmaNa, emberumAnAr was also known for His exquisite physical beauty. so the term ramya jAmAtA is very much appropriate. for Sri ananthALwAn: SrI SailESa = The Lord of SrI Sailam (Thirumala), SrinivAsa Himself. yatIndra pravaNa = like madhurakavi ALwAr, anantArya is also famous for his Acharya bhakti. so this term is very much apt. ramya jAmAtA = AchArya rAmAnuja says "you are the only man" (nIvE AN biLLai), as he only showed courage to go to Thirumalai. who else can be called a "lovely bridegroom" (ramya jAmAtA) when we have only one qualified man?! He is also an incarnation of SEsha i.e. lakshmaNa. laskhmaNo lakshmi sampannah- says rAmAyaNam from which we deduce he is the abode of all that is auspicious and divine. this applies to the divine thirumEni also. 2. yO nityamachyuta padAmbuja yugma rukma vyAmOhatah tadiutarANi truNAyamEnE asmad gurOh bhagavtOsya dayaikasindhOh rAmAnujasya charaNau SaraNam prapadyE in case of maNavALa mAmunigaL: Since "irAmAnuSan ponnadi" or the golden feet of Bhagavad rAmAnuja is one of the aliases of Sri maNavALa mAmunigaL for He being yatIndra pravaNa, this SlOka applies to Him as we surrender ourselves to Him ( "rAmAnujasya charaNau" SaraNam prapadyE). for SrI ananthALwAn: out of his vyAmOham for Achyuta's golden lotus feet, SrI ananthALwAn stayed on the hill (of course as commanded by SrI rAmAnuja), not caring for the highly unfavourable living conditions, as he considered everyhing else equivalent to a blade of grass - yO nitymachyuta padAmbuja yuga rukma vyAmOhatah taditarANi truNAyamEnE. Like dASarathi, he is also considered to be the thiruvadi of BhagavadrAmAanuja. we surrender ourselves to him as we bow to him when ananthAlwAn (SrI SatArI in Bhayshayakarula sannidhi, thirumala hill) is placed on our head (rAmAnujasya charaNau SaraNam prapadyE). just as ranganAtha is the disciple of maNavALa mAmunigaL, anathALwAn is the guru of SrInivAsa, as Lord SrInivAsa Himself said. so he is the guru of our very first guru (sarvEshAm prathamAchArya). so the term "asmadgurOh" is apt not only for Ramanuja and ramya jAmAtru muni, but also for anantArya. dAsAnudAsudu vishnu Get 250 color business cards for FREE! http://businesscards.lycos.com/vp/fastpath/ -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
