Dear Shree Vijay Triplicane, There is NO Connection between "PiLLaiyAr" and VishvaksEnar. The "PiLLaiyAr" who you have mentioned is a Badha Jeevaatman who is in the material world but on the other hand, Vishvaksenar is a "Nitya Soori" who is untouched by Karma & material worlds. Vishvaksenar is eternaly with the Lord Vaikunta Natha Para Vasudevan. He is the commander-in-chief of Vishnu's divine army. His appearence is like that of Vishnu but has a "Vethram" a stick in his hand using which he controls everything. There is mention of Vishvaksena-Aaradhanam in Saastras before the start of all Vaidika-functions. This Aaradhanam is done to clear the obstacles. You can find the Archa Moorthy of Vishvaksena in many temples like "Kanchi-Varadarajan Sannadi", "Tiru Venkatam" and in many places. Thanks & Regards M.S.HARI Ramanuja Dasan ===================================================================== Vijay Triplicanewrote: > --------------------------------------------- > Attachment:Â > MIME Type:Â multipart/alternative > --------------------------------------------- Mani, You had mentioned about the elephant headed gaja-vaktra. Is there any mention about howVishvaksEnar looks ? When we were young, we used to call him piLLaiyAr and our elders quickly corrected it as VishvaksEnar. Any thoughts on this? Most of the old temples have either garudAzhvAr sannidhi or siRiya thiruvadi sannidhi right in the front. I guess this could be a part of the Agama. Likewise, is there any refernce to sastric VishvaksEna ArAdhanai? adiyEn rAmAnuja dhAsan -Viji (Vijay Triplicane) ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Old school buds here: http://click.egroups.com/1/4057/4/_/716111/_/960392714/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@eGroups.com Visit http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/ for more information
