Tulasi Mahimai

Respected elders,

I would like to know the purpose of Tulasi.  I heard from a Doctor that Tulasi has the power of
removing our materialistic wishes (like kAma, krOdhA etc.,) and  helps us to be sanyasis.
I would like to know from our religious elders on this.
