Addressing parents

In response to Sri Mani's comment on addressing one's parents, yes, I too have heard ANNa (instead of Appa). In our house, we address our mother as Akka, father as Atti (short for Attimbere), maternal grand mother as Amma, Maternal grand father as Appa, elder maternal uncle as ANNa, younger maternal uncle by his name. The real ANNas and Akkas are addressed simply by name (irrespective of the age gap)- keeping up with one level demotion. I also addressed my eldest sister's house, as poNNU veedu! and eldest sister as poNNU at times (I was parroting the way my parents addressed their daughter's house). (Note: My eldest sister was married yeras befor I was born) I suppose this is because when we were young, we blindly parroted the way our older maternal uncle addressed his sister, his brother-in-law and his parents.
