[ From Sri T. Madhavan, Tiruvallikkeni, Chennai. Sent to me privately. ] Sri Mani. swami Pranams At the outset let me introduce my self. I am MADHAVAN 48 single, thenkalai vaishnavite, resident of Triplicane, Chennai. Memorized prabhandam 4000 in full and regular attendee of Sri Parthasathyswami temple prabhandam recitals. Kindly permit me to write certain clarifications about thondar and Bhakta. I also request you to see that my note should not lead to any unwanted arguments besides protracted letters thereon. Therefore if you feel it is appropriate please publish. The term BHAKTA ANGRI RENU may be the immediate and easy translation to understand THONDAR ADI PODI. But the bhkatha merely denotes the bhakthi on any godly abodes or for that matter on any thing in the world or anywhere .But the term Thondar means not only the bhakthi on sri narayana but also on his deciples. That is serviceable to bhagavathas primary and secondary to Bhagavan. This is explicitly emphasized by Thirumangai Azwar in his work Peria thirumozhi in 8th century, 10th division, 3rd song, 2nd and 3rd lines. He states that , O sriman Narayana, residing in the TIRUKKANAPURAM , " what I learnt from your name NARAYANA (Ashtaksharam) (eight letters) is no way better than the service to your diciples .i will not mix with anyone who is mingling with other godly abodes. I prefer to be the servant of your disciples. ". Here he notes the word ADIYAR which means THONDAR and the tondar adi podi alwar had also preferred the same service there by he had changed his name. As a matter of fact Swami Nammalwar had mentioned this matter in his works in several places. Our RAMANUJACHARYA HAD PUT THEM IN PRACTICE IN HIS LIFE WHAT OUR AZWARS HAVE ADVISED US. With kind regards. Pranams.
