SrI:

Dear BhakthAs:

I am sharing with you a note from SrI Krishna Kashyap
about his recent visit with Dr.SMS Chari and his discussions
on the most recent book on Bhagavadh GitA as commented on by
Acharaya RaamAnujA , Adhi Sankara and MaadhvAchArya . This book
was released in India two days ago . It is yet another significant
contribution from Dr.SMS Chari . He will be returning to India
by the end of August . He is such a treasure house on our
SampradhAyam and has covered the prasTAna Thrayam .

If his kind offer to help educate us on SrImad Bhagavadh
GitA's fine sampradhAyic points , it will be a blessing.
If for reason , the agenda can not be set up , let us consider
having a special Tele-upanyAsam for 90 minutes on the three
commentaries of GitA and the unique aspects of AchArya
RaamAnujA's commentary. Please feel free to take him up on
his offer to speak to other audiences while he is here .
He has unassailable links to great AchAryAs and it will
be a grand treat to listen to him on the comparitive study of
the three Bhaashyams.Perhaps SrI KrishNa Kaasyap or
SrImathi Naagu Satyan can arrange the Tele-upanyAsam
in the early part of August.

Note from Sri Krsihna Kaasyap:

>Dear friends,

>
> I went through the manuscripts of his book for about 7-8 hours. His new
>book on Bhagawadgita which is - a comparitive estimate of the bhasyaas of
>Samkara, Ramanuja and Madhva on bhagawadgita is an amazing book. I can state
>clearly that such a book was never written in english by anyone to date. The
>unique comparison is so rich in deep meanings that one has to read the book
>several times to enjoy the greatness of Sri Ramanuja's work. I personally
>feel that what really makes Sri Ramanuja's divine fame spread across the
>entire universe is his unique intelligence which has captured the heart of
>Sri Krishna's message in the Gita and the vedas in general; And it had to
>take a scholar like SMS Chari to bring this message clearly to the english
>speaking masses. SMS chari has written several books : a similar book on
>comparitive assessment on the upanisad bhasyas - just released by motilal
>banarsidas in delhi ( available in delhi only for now), one on vaishnavism,
>one on tamil vedas, one on shatadushani and another one on tattvamukta
>kalapa. Due to his excellent background and unswerving devotion with which
>he studied under stalwarts such as putthamkotai swamy, goshtipuram swamy,
>madurantakam swamy etc. such a book like this one bhagawadgita was possible.
>
>I have to admit that what SMS chari talks about regarding Bhagavadgita and
>the views of various acharyas is even more interesting than reading his book
>on it. This is not new since our acharyas always instructed us to learn
>under a guru by direct interaction. "tad viddhi pranipatena pari prashnena
>sevaya" - gita - " one should learn by prostrating a guru, serving him and
>asking questions again and again. I have expressed my personal wish that he
>should write another book on yoga of pathanjali and the relation to
>visistadvaita. Hope our acharyas and srimmanarayana bless him a long life
>and energy to do more works.

>
>I personally feel that everyone really interested to know bhagawadgita and
>its inner meanings should meet SMS chari and learn directly from him. He is
>in his eighties and any interested person should lose no time to learn from
>him. If some organization can sponsor his visit it will be great. Even
>people from dvaita and advaita schools can learn a ton of information
>regarding their own schools by talking to him.
>
>I personally cannot thank him enough. I have not worked closely with
>gostipuram swamy or putthamkotai swamy or any such eminent scholar. By
>talking to SMS chari, I feel such a wish is partly fulfilled.
>
>Regards,
>Krishna Kashyap
