Post 33 Dear Sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, I would like to share with you all the happiness in enjoying krishna through ooththukkaadu sri venkata subbu iyer's kaaLinga narthana prabhaavam slokaas [8 in number]. Of course, we had the slokaas in post 15. We will see the meaning here with some points and then take up the sri vishnu puraanam slokaas, I mentioned in post 32. The first slOkam is laavaNya kEvala saara roopa, lalitha neelaambu thaapa, bhandhooka sOba rathna ambara, nyasatha muraleerava aalaapa, sundhara aanandha, saarasanaaBha, vraja tharuNee brundha sallaaBha, navaneetha chOra, sree dhEnusvaasa dhEvaadhi dhEva, jaya namO namasthE| The first slokam is full of addressing krishNa in many ways or simply his sthuthi. Let us take up one by one. sree dhEnusvaasa dhEvaadhi dhEva, jaya namO namasthE - oh, god of gods, residing in sree dhEnusvasa puri- the place called dhEnusvaasam - ooththukkaadu's other name [the place of OVS mahan] - victory to you - my prostration to you, oh krishNa, who is 1. laavaNya kEvala saara roopa: - to be re- read as "kEvala laavaNya saara roopa:"- meaning - the only figure of quintessence of beauty. Point here is- just recall the address of rukmini the first consort of krishNa - when she just heard about him only and not seen- she addresses him "Bhuvana sundharaa" in the letter to krishNa - "sruthvaa guNaan Bhuvana sundharaa" [slokam 37 chapter 52, uththara ardham srimadh bhaagavatham] - meaning - oh world's beauty, I heard about you. [or all the world's beauty has come in the form of you oh krishNa, I heard about you]. Here "kEvala laavaNya saara roopa:". All the lavaNyam - beauty- is just squeezed and the essence taken out and cast as krishna - dancing over the snake. 2. lalitha neela ambu thaapa: - meaning- the amorous blue coloured lord rising from the ocean - or the tender blue cloud coloured lord . point here is- the neela ambu- blue ocean water is heated - thaapa and that rising ambu thaapam is collected as tender clouds. seeing these clouds full of water reminds the cloud coloured lord krishna - neela neeradha krishna [recall baala gOpaala krithi of sri muththuswamy dhikshithar]. 3. bandhooka sObha rathna ambara: - meaning - the gem of a person who has the dress red in colour like that of the dhEvadhaaru tree- [sal wood or vEngai in tamil- this is red in colour, strong and stout, hard timber] 4. nyasatha muraleerava aalaapa: - to be read as murallerava aalaapa nyastha: - the one who addresses all through his flute music - his means of communication is flute music- just recall how he invited all [no exception - let it be cows or girls- flute only is mode of calling]. Just recall the periyaazhvaar's decad on this kuzhal oothuthal- naavalam theevil - idhu or arpudham kELeer. also just recall OVS in another krithi "vaNNak kuzhal oothiduvaan, kuzhal aagi, kuzhal isai vadivu aagi, isai poruL aagi, payan aagi, payan nugarvu aagi, uNarvu aagi, en eNNaththOdu kalantha ezhilaan" - we enjoyed this in earlier post. 5. aanandha sundhara: - embodiment of bliss and beauty combined. As we saw in earlier post dad vasudhEva addresses child krishNa aanandha swaroopa. Here it is aanandha sundhara. 6. Saarasa naaBha - one who has lotus emerging from his naval - the lotus being the seat of brahma. 7. Vraja tharuNee brundha sallaBha; - one who enjoys with young girls of vraja kulam- vraja clan- in the forest- raasa kreeda is put in this way - again we enjoyed this in the same naavalam decad of periyaazhvaar how these girls relished krishna. 8. Navaneetha chOra: butter thief- again periyaazhvaar - we enjoyed that beautiful education what krishna had- kannapiraan karra vennaik kalvi- OVS swamy puts it he came for time equivalent to a flash of eyelids- winking time- but result is great- the heart is gone- see vanthadhuvum ponadhuvum imaip pozhudhu aanaalum manamanRO kaLavaanadhE thayirodu navaneetham kaLavida [vanthadhuvum] he came for a second came to steal butter and curd- but what really stolen is the heart. krishNa - please take my heart- I do not readily have butter now. Dear bhakthaas, you may wonder whether OVS is going to give kaaLiya narthanam description - but what he pours out is krishna sthuthi. Incidentally, I wish to add that reciting the address of rukmiNi to krishNa daily as a paaraayaNam is good for girls in marriageable age, so that they will be successful in getting a good husband. [the 7 slokaas in srimadh bhaagavatham] [through the brahmaNan to take her forcibly away and then marry]. That is what I read in the thiruppavai commentary of Sri perukkaraNai swamy. Let us continue the kaalinga narthana prabhaavam in next post.
