Svargam and Naragam--a possible answer

Dear Bhagavatas, Adiyen would like to prostrate before all the saha bhagavatas, for their excellent insights on the concept of Swargam and Naragam. Adiyen had an oppurtunity of posing the same question to shri Ue Ve. Velukkudi Krishnan swami, during his tenure of upanyasams in the USA. Adieyen would like to reproduce swamy's reply to this, to the extent, grasped by adiyen's understanding capacity. Whatever mistakes are there are entirely due to adiyen's misunderstanding and agnayanam. There are basically three karmas namely, Prarabda karma, Aagami karma and Sanchita karma. The above three karmas can considered analogous to a 10MB file being printed on a printer. The concept of printing goes about like this: The 10MB file doesnt get printed in a single shot. It mainly resides in the Hard disk/RAM, part of the file say 2MB will be in the printer buffer and around 2 MB will be in the process of getting printed in the printer. Whatever there in the Hard disk/RAM is Sanchita Karma. Karma which we have accumulated over our previous births. Whatever there in the printer which is getting printed is Prarabda Karma. Karma which we are destined to spend in the current birth. Whatever there in the printer buffer is Aagami Karma. Karma which is in store to be spend in the next birth. So, we will be spending the prarabda karma in the current birth as well as in Sorkam and Naragam (The spending in Sorgam and Narakam will be in accordance with the Pavams and punniyams to our credit). So Adiyens understandng is we nullify the pavams and punnaiyams only for Prarabdha karma and still we have in store to be spent as Aagami and Sanchita karma. HENCE THE NULLIFICATION PROCESS IN SORKAM AND NARAKAM IS ONLY FOR PRARABDA KARMA AND STILL AAGAMI AND SANCHITAM REMAIN. Now in the case of a Prapannan, who surrenders everything to the lotus feet of Emperuman, Emperuman takes care of his Aagami and Sanchita karma. As per Thiruppavai, Poya pizhayum pugu tharu vaan ninnanavum theeyinil thoosagum seppelor empaavai". Emperuman destroys the Sanchita and Aagama karma in resemblence to a cotton being destroyed by fire. So the Prapannan is left with Prarabdha karma, which he has to spend during the course of his life time. But there are cases of Nirhetuka kripai of Emperuman where this karma is also washed aside by emperuman as in the case of "Sisubalan" who is granted moksham by emperuman, even though he was a great Papi. For Non Prapannas , ideally speaking they are suppose to reduce the karmas accounted in the Sanchita karma.(As the printing job comes to an end, once the file is completed printing). But the irony is, they further do paavam and punniyams in their births and increase the deposit in Sanchita karma. Hence it becomes an endless cycle of birth and death for this jeevathama to nullify the karmas in store. So let us all submit our karmas and the actions resulting out of the karmas to the lotus feet of emperuman and finally reach the abode of thiruvadi of emperuman. Again, whatever mistakes the learned members of this group find in the above posting is entirely due to adiyen's misunderstanding and agnayanam and request corrections from the group. Azhwar Emperumanaar Jeeyar thiruvadigale saranam, Adiyen, Varadarajan Ramanuja dasan. jayasartnwrote: -- SRIMATHE RAMANUJAYA NAMAHA Dear devotees, Sri Balaji has raised a question (paradoxical in implication) in this mail. I request the devotees to share their opinions / replies to this question. > > Why do elders bless the younger ones for 'Deerghayush' (i.e. 100/120 years). > Though we wish our progeny to live long, is it to shed our karma in this > birth itself by living as long as possible. The more you live the more > accumulation of punya/papam. Is n't it? Then why should we live that long > at all? > > Expecting your views, jayasree sarnathan -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Group Home: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bhakti-list Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
