Yes, I agree it is all getting very confusing. Let me try to clarify a little bit. There is *absolutely no* confusion with respect to when to perform Yajur Upakarma in the US. Strictly according to the shastras it *has* to be done on Friday, as only Friday is Paurnami (full moon) in the US. Saturday is Prathama, so Gayatri Japam must be done on Saturday. Apastamba Maharishi is absolutely clear on this point, and I can discuss the relevant sUtras with those who are interested by private email. I have to say that those who live in the US but follow panchangams calculated for Indian time and do Upakarma on Saturday are simply doing it on the wrong day. There is now some confusion as to when to observe this in India. If you are India consult your local brihaspati or acharya and they will clarify the issue. But, to summarize, if you live in the US, please observe the following: Yajur Upakarma: Friday, August 3, 2001 Gayatri Japam: Saturday, August 4, 2001 Mani -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
