The following article appeared in Times of India ( Bangalore Edition,
dated July 25th,2000 ).

' Lost ' Gita shlokas fetch scholar D.Litt

HYDERABAD : Dr.Vedavyas, renowe scholar and former civl servant, was
awarded the degree of Doctor of Letters ( D.Litt) by the Andhra
University for the discovery of 45 extra sholkas of the Bhagavad Gita.
Dr.Vedavyas was also the recepient of a doctorate degree of the same
university.

According to a press note issued by the university, Dr.Vedavysa
discovered the 45 last shlokas of the Bhagavad Gita in 1990. which he
published with critical intorduction and testual criticis, of the palm
leaf manuscript of the original bhagavad gita.

Eminent research professors in Sanskrit from different universities
conculded that the textual readings weree different from and older than
the Gita text commented upom by Adi Shakaracharya in his gita commentary
wherein, he did not comment on the extra shlokas. These shlokas were
lost in the pre-buddhist period in south india.

The university also claims that Dr.Vedavyas had screened over 150
commentaries to prove thee authneticity of the 45 shlokas.
