Tirumazhisai Azhwar
From the Bhakti List Archives
• January 8, 1997
Dear Members of the Bhakti List, My post on Tirumazhisai Azhwar seems to have triggered off a debate about Jati and Varnashrama Dharma. Sri Mani has come down hard on Brahmins in general. I vehemently disagree with his position. To save the group from unnecessary back and forth exchange, I shall correspond with Sri Mani through private email on this issue. To set the record straight, I was merely contributing information gained from Sriman Ramaswamy's narration of Navaneetam Swamigal's interpretation of Tirumazhisai Azhwar's encounter with the Brahmins chanting of the Vedams. In this context, I was trying to relate the Azhwar being an Amsham of the Lord's Chakram to several aspects of the Chakram. The sources of my information about the Chakram are Swami Rangapriya and Sriman Santanagopalachar Swamigal (who was a great Upasakar of Sudarshana Narasimhar) from whom I have received Sudarshana MantrOpadesham. Due to the "gag order" of Santanagopalachar Swamigal, I cannot reveal many aspects of the Chakram. As a result, I can only reiterate that I stand by my writings from my previous post. I seek forgiveness for all inaccuracies, incorrectness or offensiveness in my posts. I do not want to distort anything that has been said by our Purvacharyas. Since my attempts to find the path of the Purvacharyas in this list serve as a distraction, I have resolved to leave the forum. Sriman Rengarajan posted an extremely informative and insightful article about the significance of Kumbhakonam, Bhaskara Kshetram and its Chakrathazhwar related aspects. I have made a note of the important Kshetrams mentioned in his article and I plan to take his article along with me when I visit Kumbhakonam. I cannot find enough words to express my appreciation and thanks for Sri Rengarajan's efforts. I thank Mani for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the cyberspace Satsangam. As a result, I had a chance to meet several knowledgable and devout Bhagavatas. I take this opportunity to specifically thank Srimans Anbil Ramaswamy, Sadagopan, Rengarajan, Dileepan, Jaganath Bharadwaj, Vijay Srinivasan, Sunder Kidambi and Tatachar for all their help and support for my humble attempts to disseminate Bhagavad Vishayam from my limited knowledge and understanding. Please note that I am not fishing for compliments or recognition. Namo Narayana, Muralidhar Rangaswamy
