how should one start simple pranayama

Srimathae Narayana namaha Can the enlightened members of the group let me know how one should practise basic paranayama? I have been doing this for 3 years with suttle but wonderful results.What I do is, sitting in a comforatfble position draw breadth in one nostril.hold and recite one gayathri and then release the breath thru the other nostril slowly.Repeat 10 sets and then draw breath thru both nostrils and release slowly repeat this 5 times.Pl let me know if this is ok and if so how to progress further.
