                                            Lord's compassion

The twenty third pAsuram "mAri malai muzhanjil" completes with the request 'yAm vandha kAriyam ARAindharuL'. The gopikAs request the Lord "We have come to You. You should analyse the purpose of our visit and grant us accordingly. The Lord here feels for this. He feels that the gopikAs have come to His doorsteps. He feels that He should have gone towards them. Instead they have come to Him. The Lord feels"Oh. I should have approached and removed their obstacles and fulfilled their desires" Instead they have approached me.

Here, two events are quoted 1.dhnadakAraNya hrishis and 2. vibhEshaNan.

The dhandakAraNya hrishis approach the LOrd and appeal to Him for removing their obstacles. The Lord feels that He should have approached them but they have approached Him.

Similarly, vibhEshaNan appraoches srE rAmA and srE rAmA feels that "Oh! vibhishaNA must have suffered a lot in lankA when he had difference of opinion with his brother. It is all because of me".

It is clear that the Lord always desires to seek the devotees and obliterate their ordeals. When the devotees themselves approach Him,not only does he feel for it, but become very compassionate towards them.

The ARAyirappadi vyAkyAnam aptly summarises this aspect 'mudhalilE rakshaganAnavanukkuch chenRu rakshika vENum;adhilE Artharai 'aiyO' enRu viNava vENum;ippadiyirukka nOvipaduvigOLum, adhu vandhu aRivippigOLum nEngaLAnapadi piRpAdaRAnOm'. First the Saviour should go to the devotee and rescue him. Then, should compassionately console the devotee. Instead of this, those who have suffered approach Him and inform regarding the problem. Oh! I have lagged behind" is the Lord's deep sense of pain.
