[admin]:Caste and Social Justice
From the Bhakti List Archives
• January 23, 2002
Dear Members, In the last few days there has been active discussion on the topic of caste and social justice. A discussion on caste ought to really be part of a broader discussion on VarnAshrama Dharma. Given the fact that a society based on varnAshrama hardly exists today, it seems to me that much of the present discussion on the classification and duties of different people is academic in nature. For the spiritual aspirant, the essential question is this: What is dharma, and how do I practice it? This is precisely the question that ought to be put at the feet of the present day AachAryAs. It is my opinion that many of our questions will be resolved in the process. This issue has been previously discussed in this forum, and hence I invite members to peruse the archival postings on this topic before adding to the present conversation. Further, unless members have new insights on this sensitive topic, I suggest that the discussion be taken off-line.
