Poojya Swamin. Friday, the 11th January 2002 is the Thiru nakshathram of Shri Thondaradipodi Alwar – Margazhi Kettai. A big, grand Thiru Avatara Mahotsavam is scheduled to be held at Thiru mandangudy, the Avatara Divya Desam of the Alwar. Adiyen is going there for the next three days and in this context, Adiyen would like to share the Alwar’s Charama Slokam. Just like the Charama Slokam of Sri Krishnan in Bhagwad Gita, the Alwar’s Thirumalai pasuram no. 38 is the charama slokam of the Alwar. Sri Periyavachan Pillai has given a beautiful commentary on the same. Adiyen shall give a brief transalation of the same. “Memporul pogavittu meimayai miga vunarnthu, Aam parisarinthu Kondu Aimpulan agaththadakki Kambarath thalai siraithu un Kadaithalai irunthu vazhum Sombarai ugathi polum soozh punal Arangathane!” Sri Rangam loves the “Vazhum somber” – those who have discarded the “memporul” – things which give the false impression of bestowing greatness “mEnmai”, Who have understood the “meimai”- the atma swaroopa – that the atma is the property of the Lord and Parathantharya and Ananarha Seshatva “UnaKKE nAm Atcheyvom” Who realize the “Am parisu”- that the kainkarya for the pleasure of the Lord is the ultimate Purushartha – the kainkarya leading to one’s pleasure is not purushartha – the kainkarya leading to one’s and Lord’s pleasure is not purushartha – but the Kainkarya leading the Lord’s Thirumuha Ullasam – his pleasure – is the Purushartha Who control the “Aimpulan” – those who have realized the above three would be definitely in control of the five senses, but here the Alwar means to having no mamata sense in the above stated kainkarya, Who do “kAmbarath thalai siraithu” – deleting the belief and trust in other upayas from the roots – here Sri Periyavachan Pillai also refers to the hair on one’s head leading to ahankara and that the removing of the hair is said to be an act of dropping the ahankara Who reside in “un Kadaithalai” – full and utmose mahaviswasam in Lord taking care of us in current and para loka and looking up to Lord’s hands for every action. The above suris who qualify in the above are “Vazhum somber” . The pasuram is also the literal transalation of the Dvya sloka.
