In this issue we will start experiencing how azhwaar enjoyed the
divya thirumeni of Emperumaan Rangan at Sri Rangam through his
prabandham "Amalanaadhi Piraan".

The thaniyan to this prabandham says :-

  "Aapaadha choodamanubhooyam harim shayaanam
   Madhye kaveradhuhithur mudhithaantharaathmaa
   Adhrishtritham nayanayo: vishyaanthraanam
   Yonishchikaaya manave munivaahanam tham"

Emperumaan gives his sevai in many vaahanams to his bhakthaas.
Similarly aazhwaar has been given a name by emperumaan as
"Munivaahanar" as he was carried by Loka Saaranga Muni as
his vaahanam (vehicle).

The above thaniyan says that aazhwar enjoyed :-

Aapaadha choodamanubhooyam Harim Shayaanam :-

Those lotus feet of emperumaan Hari who gives gives his divya sevai
with his Bhujanga Sayanam where emperumaan is showing all of us his
divya sevai in Bhujanga Shayanam ??

Madhye Kaveradhuhitu :-

In the midst of the river Kaaveri that runs as two forms namely
"Vada Thirukkaveri" and "Then Thirukkaveri".

Hence the only bhakthaa who had the gift of seeing emperumaan's
divya sevai through emperumaan himself, by singing his praise,
explaining the beauty of his thirumeni starting from the
Thiruvadi till his Thirumukha mandalam was Thiruppaanaazhwaar.
Even Thiruvarngathamudhu in his Iraamaanusa Nootrandhaadhi says :-

"Seeriya Naan marai semporul, senthamizhaal alitha paariyalum
pugazh Paan Perumaal, Sharanaam padumaathaariyal senni
 iraamaanusan."

The above paasruram says that adiyen will always do sharanagathi
at the thiruvadi of emperumaanaar who always has the feet of
thirupaanaazhwaar on his head who gave us the essence of all
the vedams thorugh his 10 paasurams of Amalanaadi Piraan.

Similary another thaniyan on thiruppaanaazhwaar says :-

"Kaatave kanda kamala paadham naalaadai undi
Thettarum udhara bandham thiru maarbu kantam sevvaai
Vaattamil kangal meni muniyeri thani pugundhu
Paatinaal kandu vaazhum paanar thaal paravinome."

We always bow ourselves at the feet of aazhwaar who has sung the
soundaryam of emperumaan's thirumeni in his 10 paasurams explaining
his beauty of each part of his thirumeni namely emperumaan's
lotus feet, vasthram, his naabhi, his chest, his kantam (throat) ,
his lips, his eyes and his entire thirumukha mandalam and entire

thirumeni, which gives us the essence of all the four vedaas and
that too this divya sevai was given to azhwaar by emperumaan
himself to aazhwaar. Hence no matter anyone else would have sung
the praise emperumaan or anybody would have seen emperumaan's

divya sevai but no on ecould have enjoyed emperumaan's divya sevai
through emperumaan himself showing it to Thiruppaanaazhwaar. Even
if we look at other aazhwaars, most of them sung the praise of
emperumaam about his supreme form at Sri Vaikuntam like Pogai,
Boodham, Peiyazhwaar. Similarly Thirumazhisai aazhwaar sung
emperumaan in an Antharyaami form in which the emperumaan exists
as the inner soul in everyone.

Hwo does these 10 paasurams gives the essence of all the vedams ?

If we look at the first paasuram it starts with "A" or akaaram,
the second paasuram starts wth "U" ukaaram and the third paasuram
starts with makaaram which leads to describing the Pranavam that
describes the nature of Paramaathma who is the akaaram, the
Jeevaathmaa who is the makaaram and, Thaayaar or Aachaaryan who
is the ukaaram in the Pravam.

Nammaazhwaar, Periyaazhwaar and Aandaal always sing the praise
emperumaan as Kannan as vibhavaavathaaram and Swamy Kulasekhara
aazhwaar always praises emperumaan as Sri Raaman which is also
vibhavaavathaaram. Thirumangai aazhwaar was always singing

the praise of emperumaan as Archaavathaaram but sang about all
the Divya Desams. Only two aazhwars sung emperumaan at
Thiruvarangam only as archaavathaaram namely Thiruppaanaazhwaar
and Thondaradippodi aazhwaar. These two wre very close to
emperumaan at thiruvarangam. Among the two only
thiruppaanaazhwaar sung emperumaan's thirumeni in his 10
paasurams of Amalanaadhi Piraan and saw emperumaan's divya sevai
through emperumaan itself.

But thiruppaanaazhwaar has a significance that aazhwaar only sung
the praise of thiruvarangan and he never gave any advice in his
paasurams to anyone nor he gave any palasruthi (The result of
singing these 10 paasurams) in his Amalanaadi Piraan. Whereas
other aazhwaars gave advises to everyone. Even thondardippaodi
says that he will never accept anyone else as the supreme lord
except Thiruvarangan at Sri Rangam thereby condemning other
emperumaan's at other Divya Desams. Hence Thiruppanaazhwaar saw
only Thiruvarangan and also says :-

     "Mandhi paai vadavenkata maamalai
      Vaanavargal sandhi seiyya ninraan
      Arangatharavin anaiyaan.."

Aazhwaar says :

The same lord at Thiruvenkatama has come to Sri Rangam and is
sleeping here as Thiruvarangan. So all other emperumaan also has
been seen as only Thiruvarangan by thiruppaanaazhwaar in his
paasurams. Now let us see what aazhwaar says in each of his
10 paasurams that explains the beauty of each part of
emperumaan's thirumeni starting from his lotus feet till his
thiru mukha mandalam. In the first paasuram aazhwaar sings about
the praise of emperumaan's lotus feet. Aazhwaar says :-

"Thirukkamala Paadham vandhu en kannil ullana okkinrave.."

Swamy Vedaantha Desikan in his similar work to Amalanaadhi
piraan enjoys the thirumeni of thiruvarangan. In his work
"Bhagavadh Dhyaana Sopaanam", swamy Vedaantha Desikan says :-

"Velaatheetha: sruthi parimalam vedhasaam mouli sevyam
 Praathu: bhootham kanakarasitha: saikathe hamsajushte
 Lakshmibhoomyo: karasarasijai: laalaitham ranga barthu:
 Padaambhojam prathiphalathi me bhaavanaadheerdhikaayaam"

Meaning :- The lotus feet of Thiruvarangan at Sri Rangam
which has the fragrance of all the four vedams,
which is being worshipped by Brahma. Shiva and
other devaas,is residing at the midst of the
river Kaaveri where Hamsa Birds reside always.
that lotus feet of thiruvarangan which is being
touched and worshipped by Sri Devi and Bhoodevi
and Nappinnai has captivated adiyen's thoughts.

Then aazhwaar sings about emperumaan's vashthram above the
lotus feet.

Let us continue with the remaining verses in the next post.
