Sri: SrimatE Gopaladesika MahadesikAya Namaha, Dear Bhaktas, Adiyen is sumbitting this appeal to you for support of the 80th Tirunakshatram Celebrations H.H. Srimad Andavan Swami of Srimad Poundarikapuram Ashramam. Why should all shishyas and Abhimanis come together for this cause? The answer is most eloquently provided by Swami Desikan's Mahaveera Vaibhavam salutation "PadhukAgriyAbhisheka nirvarthitha sarvalOka Yogakshema" and the Ramayana salutation "AdhirOhArya pAdhABhyAm pAdhukE hEma BhUshithE ethEhi sarvalOkasya yogakshemam nidhAsyatha:" Let us first examine what is it that is denoted by the Padhukas. Swami Desikan establishes in the Padhuka Sahasram that the Padhukas denote Satari Soori or Swami NammAzhwar and SadAcharyas in his line. Next, the term AgriyAbhisheka denotes first coronation. Therefore, the Padhukas beget a status even greater than the Lord Himself. The term Yogakshema is composed of the words Yoga and Kshema. Yoga can denote (1) Recovering Something that is lost (2) Begetting something that one has never had (3) Union (4) Path Kshema denotes preservation of present state. In the Mahaveera Vaibhavam salutation, Swami Desikan glorifies Bharata for performing the Pattabhishekam for the Padhukas of Lord Rama and thereby ensured the welfare of the entire universe. It must be borne in mind that during even the reign of Lord Rama was not free of mishaps. (1) Lord Rama had to mete out punishment to one belonging to the fourth caste for engaging in Veda Adhyayanam. (2) Lord Rama had to account for the untimely demise of a Brahmin's son. Whereas, during the reign of the Padhukas only auspiciousness prevailed everywhere. The coronation of the Padhukas was the forerunner to the coronation of Sugriva, VibhishaNa, and Lord Rama Himself as Sethurama upon successfully constructing the great causeway across the mighty ocean (this incident is glorified in one shlokam of the Ramayana). Even the previously stalled coronation of Lord Rama was completed only after the coronation of the Padhukas. It is no secret that the foremost desire of Lord Rama himself was to see the the coronation of the Padhukas. Testimony in support of this fact can be seen from Swami Desikan's Padhuka Sahasram salutation "Abhishechanikam BhAndam chakrE rama pradakshiNam". Since, this is the desire of Lord Rama himself, is it not incumbent on the Lord's Bhaktas to uphold this desire? Hence, it is the duty of every Srivaishnava to actively participate and support the Tirunakshatram Kaimkaryam of H.H. Srimad Andavan Swami of Srimad Poundarikapuram Ashramam. Lord Rama's greatest regret was that He was unable to witness the coronation of thePadhukas. Therefore, participation in the Tirunakshatram Kaimkaryam of H.H. confers upon an individual a status which makes the Lord himself envious! Let us now focus on the four meanings of the term Yogam: (1)Recovering Something that is lost: Every baddha jivan is immersed in an ocean of sin on account of bondage to Samsara through karma. As a result the baddha jivan loses its true identity, i.e., (i)its existence is solely for the purpose of performing kaimkaryam at the behest and for the pleasure of Paramatma (Lord Narayana)(ii) The jivatma is the property of the Paramatma, who is the Sheshi, Swami for the jivatma(iii)The surest way of restoring the property to its rightful owner is by performing SharaNagati at the Lord's lotus feet. Sadacharyas facilitate a baddha jivan to realize their true identity by setting an example through Anushtanam, upadesham, Kalakshepam and their Sri Sookthis containing blissful Anubhavams of the Divya Dampatis. (2) Begetting something that one has never had: The bliss of eternal Kaimkaryam for the pleasure and at the pleasure of the Divine Couple is something that a baddha jivan has never experienced. Sadacharyas assure a Baddha jivan of this benefit by blessing them with Bharanyasam. (3)Union: Sadacharyas in the line of Swami NammAzhwar are forever engaged in contemplation of Lord Narayana and his endless glory. The Padhukas are never separated from the Lord's feet. So too Sadacharyas are immersed in thoughts of Lord Narayana every moment. Their union with the Lord's feet assures baddha jivans of union with Lord Narayana as a result of Acharya Sambandham. (4)Path: The easiest path for attaining Lord Narayana is through an unconditional, total surrender to His lotus feet (SharaNagati). Sadacharyas in the line of Swami NammAzhwar are foremost exponents of this path and thus ensure that baddha jivans are forever freed from the infinite cycle of births and deaths. H.H. Srimad Andavan Swami of Srimad Poundarikapuram Ashramam, shines forth as the beacon light among Yathivaras, being the embodiment of every word described herein. He continues to reform and redeem countless baddha jivans, while strictly upholding the principles and practices of PurvAcharyas.
