     About Dr. Anantha Rangacharya
     -----------------------------
We are honored to announce the first telephone discourse by
Vedanta Vidvan Dr. N.S. Anantha Rangacharya, a renowned scholar of
Indian Philosophy. Dr. Anantha Rangacharya studied Vedanta in the
traditional manner at the feet of Vedanta Vidvan, Vedanta Sarajna
Sri U.Ve. Krishna Tatacharya Swami. He received the B.A. (Hons),
B.T., and Ph.D. degrees from Mysore University. For many years he
was Principal of Maharaja's Sanskrit College, Mysore. He is well
known for his deep study of all the major philosophers of Vedanta
and for his unbiased presentation of Vedantic fundamentals, which
is a treat for the open-minded. He has the distinct honor of
teaching the works of Sri Sankaracharya at the Bharatiya Vidya
Bhavan four times, a feat rarely matched by scholars of any
     background.

He has authored over 90 books on Vedanta in both English and
Kannada, including translations of the principal Upanishads,
detailed expositions of the commentaries of Sri Ramanuja, the
Tiruvaymoli of Sri Nammalvar, and many other works of both popular
and scholarly interest. He is a tireless lecturer and has
conducted discourses in English, Tamil, and Kannada without a
break for many years in Bangalore.

It is our good fortune that Dr. Anantha Rangacharya has agreed to
give us this lecture in English. Everyone should make use of this
opportunity to listen to this octogenarian master of philosophy.
