The uthsavams that I have in mind are : (1) the just-concluded Thai maasa BrahmOthsavam ( theerthavAri was on Thai Purattathi, which fell on January 31 ) . {2}Ratha Sapthami followed on February 3 along with {3}Saarumurai for Thirumazhisaip pirAn , who saluted the Lord of ThiruveLLUr as : ThiruvevvuLL nAhatthaNaip pARkkadalk kidakkum adhi nedumAl aNaippAr karutthanAvAn . (Meaning ) : The Lord , who normally rests on AdhisEshan at His abode in the milky Ocean now rests at ThiruveLLUr and enters the minds of the prapannAs , who take refuge at His Lotus feet ) . All their samsAric ills take flight thereafter . For three days following AmavAsyai , there was (4) TheppOthsavam for Sri VeerarAghavan ( Feb 3,4and 5 ) . (5) The celebration of an important Vaishnavite AchArya follows next . Thirukkacchi Nampi , the one who interceded with Lord VaradarAjan was born not far from the kshEthram of ThiruveLLUr and Thirumazhisai , the birth place of Thirumazhishai AzhwAr . Inview of the unique greatness of Thirukkacchi Nampi ( Kaanchi pUrNar ) , who worshipped often at ThiruveLLUr , there is a ten day SaaRRumuRai uthsavam for him starting from Maasi Mrugaseersham ( February 7th ) . That concludes on February 17 th . (7) These sequence of Uthsavams provide the context for one of the most important uthsavams for Sri VeerarAghavan in the month of Maasi . THIS IS THE SAHASRA KALASA ABHISEKHAM ACCORDING TO THE INJUNCTIONS PRESCRIBED IN THE PAANCHARATHRA AAGAMAM . This ancient ritual was initiated by the 37th Jeeyar of AhObila Mutt known as the PiLLaipAkkam Jeeyar ( Sri VeerarAghava SatakOpa Yatheendhra Maha Desikan ) . This MahAn received SanyAsam at the order of Sri Bhagavadh RaamAnujAchArya of Sri perumpUthur and was the one the ApUrva Viadhyan requested help , when His arm was hurting . This jeeyar took care of it and received the blessings of Sri Vaidhya VeerarAghavan . This purificatory rite of SAHASRA KALASA ABHISHEKAM was peformed for Loka KshEmam by the Jeeyar . This tradition is continued even today . Sriman K.G . Krishnan Swamy , the son-in-law of the illustrious UtthamUr VeerarAghavAcharya Swamy has taken the leadership in conducting this SAHASRA KALASAABHISHEKHAM . The dates are February 15-17 and the Thirumanjanam ( AbhishEkam ) itself is on February 16 . The prathishtai , Veda PaarAyaNam , Udhaka Saanthi precede the AbhishEkham . It costs $5.30 per kalasam and the sambhAvanai , TadheeyArAdhanam following the Sahasra KalasAbhishEkham ( 7.15to 1.15 PM on February 16th ) . In the evening , there is veedhi purapaadu by the uthsava mUrthis to bless the BhakthAs . Almost 500 Kalasams have been spoken for by the BhakthAs of Sri VeerarAghavan so far . WE HAVE AN WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE PART IN THIS RARE FESTIVAL AND TAKE UP RESPONSIBILITY FOR ONE OR MORE KALASAMS FOR OUR FAMILIES . May I request you all to support this Sahasra KalasAbhshEkam and send your pledges to Sri K.A. Anand at the following e-mail address: anand@engr.uconn.edu He will advise his father , Sri K.G. KrishNan Swamy , who will cover the pledges at the front end . By copy of this note , I am advising Sri Anand about my pledge for FIVE kalasams . Please ask your relatives in India to attend the festival and receive PrasAdhams in person ): ( 23X18 inch Art Photo Of PerumAL & ThAyAr , Dry Fruits, ThAyAr manjaL kumkumam , PerumAL Sandal Paste , Thirumanjana Theertham in plastic box , ThirumAngalya Saradu& Maasi Nonbhu Saradu < Tamil Texts of Swami Desikan's Raghu Veera Gadhyam , Azhwar Paasurams , Kulam Tharum Paasuram of Thirumangai ona separated laminated card , Sthala PurANam and KimgruhEsa sthOthram on the Lord attributed to Swami Desikan ) . That is quite a list of PrasAdhams . Here is a brief introduction to the Divya Desam and its EmperumAn : ThiruveLLUr is one of the most celebrated of the 108 Divya dEsams in the Sri VaishNavite sampradhAyam . This KshEthra mUrthy is revered as Sri Vaidhya VeerarAghavan , since He eliminates our disease known as SamsAram . His beautiful DhyAna SlOkams start with a salutation to His apUrva Vaidhya VeerarAghava mahimai : rAghAdhi rhOgAn sadadhAnushakthAn asEshakAya prasruthAn asEshAn I Outhsukhya mOharathidhAnajagAnayO apUrva VaidhyAya namOsthu tasmai II To that apUrva ( rare, wonderous ) Doctor , who cures completely the diseases like madha -mOha-mAtsaryam- krOdham et al the slautaion is made . In his ten paasurams , Thirumangai salutes Thirumangai AzhwAr , Thirumazhisai AzhwAr have saluted Him along with AchAryAs like Swami Desikan , RaamAnujA , Jeeyars of Ahobila Mutt, VadalUr Raamalinga Swamigal ( Thiruppanjakam ) in beautiful Tamil . The five verses are full of devotion and follow the path of the ancient AzhwArs . The excerpts from these verses are as follows : vaNNamAmaNiyE porri !
