Subject: Thiru maal irum sOlai - part 12 - kaatu azhagar kOil

Once there was a saint by name Sri Sudabha. He was doing a penance in thiru
maal irum sOlai. One day when he was doing his neeraattal (snAnam) Sage
Durvasa and his disciples passed by. Saint sudhaba didn't take notice of them
as he was immersed in the water and meditating. Since this was not the
protocol one can observe to a munivar like sage durvasar, Durvasar got
angry and cursed him "Since you didn't pay attention to my arrival and
was immersed in water all the time, you be born as a frog that dwell in the
water". Sage Sudhaba realized the curse and apologized and pleaded to
sage durvasa for remedy. "You will goto the hill station "Dharmaathri" where
Sriman narayana is ever living (in nityavasam) and do a penance. Then this
curse will be relieved. Saint Sudhaba pleaded "I am used to worshipping
everyday our Lord SundaraRajan of thiru maal irum sOlai only. Hence I must
worship the same Lord in that place". Sage Durvasar granted" So be it". Thus
our Lord Sundararajan perumal went to varAha parvatham and in particular the
darmaathri parvatham and appeared for darshan. Thus the kaatu ahazgar kOil
in this place is also having our Lord azhagar as the presiding
deity. This piece of history is presented in Srivilipuththur sthala
varaLaaRu.
