Srirangam

May be one of you can shed light on some of the archeological excavations done in Srirangam in mid 1970's. I was there in 1977 and took some pictures of an small pit dug up to reveal the foundation of one of the mantapams, in the main prakaram, close to the large Garuda profiled in stone. Below the floor level, is an intircate carving of the profile of a large elephant. The pit had been dug up to show the complete profile,, about 12 feet deep. Did they do further exploration?
