SrI:

Dear BhakthAs:

Today we will study the Seventh Paasuram
of Thirumangai Mannan on Lord DhaivanAyakan of
ThiruvahIndhrapuram ( Periya Thirumozhi: 3.1.7):

minnin-nuNN-idai madakkodi kAraNam vilangalin misai Ilankai
mannan neeN-mudi podi seytha maindan idam maNi varai neezhal
anna-mAmalar aravindhattamaLiyil pedaiyOdum inithamara
sennal-aar kavarik-kulai veesu taNN ThiruvayeendhrapuramE

General observations
**********************
The cowardly act of the evil RaavaNan in abducting
SitA PirAtti , the slaying of RaavaNan for that aparAdham
by Lord Raamachandran , the beautiful scenery at Thiruayindhai
are covered in this paasuram. Kaliyan's focus on RaamAyaNam
continues.

First & Second Lines of the Sixth Paasuram
*********************************
" minnin nuNN idai madak-kodi kAraNam vilangalin
misai Ilangai(Mannan) neeNN mudi podi seytha mynthan
idam (ThiruvayeendhrapuramE)".

The extraordinary slimness(nuNN) of the waist (idai)
of SitA Piratti is compared here to the width of
a lightning (minnal). One of the divine mark of beauty of
Jaanaki MaathA ( Her SaamudhrikA lakshaNam) is the thinnest
of the thin waists. Her physical beauty of an unparalleled
kind is matched only by Her aathma guNams befitting
a pathivrathA SirOnmaNi (the crown jewel among the Chaste
women ). Kaliyan refers to Her Aathma GuNam of "madappam ",
when he describes Her as "Madakkodi". Madappam is NaaNam
or adakkam . By the choice of the word "Madakkodi",
Kaliyan salutes both Her ThirumEni Azhagu ( tender creeper-
like physical beauty ) and Her aathma guNams (Spiritual
Attributes). It is for the sake of this lady (wife)
with the amalgam of physical beauty and spiritual qualities
(Madakkodi KaaraNam) , Raamachandran invaded Lanka
and ascended the peak of Thrikooda mountain , fought
with the evil Raavanan there and pulverized his tall
ten heads in a fierce battle (vilangalin misai Ilangai
mannan neeNN mudi podi seytha) . Kaliyan points out that
the home of this Raghuveeran , who destroyed RaavaNan
is indeed the dhivya dEsam of ThiruvahIndhrapuram
(Myndhan idam ThiruvaheendhrapuramE).Kaliyan addresses
Raamachandran as "Myndhan " here to remind us that
our Lord took the human incarnation as the son of
DasaraTan ( DasaraTa Myndhan).

Third line of the Paasuram
***************************
(MaNi varai Neezhal) annam mAmalar Aravindha(m)
TamaLiyil pedaiyodu(m) inithu amara "

The important feature of this dhivya dEsam is
the Oushada Giri ( mountain filled with medicinal
herbs/ MaNi Varai ). At the foot hills of this mountain
(MaNi varai neezhal) , Kaliyan sees many ponds with thousand
petalled lotuses , which serve as the most enjoyable ,
soft and fragrant beds/resting places for the swan couples
( annam mAmalar aravindha tamaLiyil inithu amara). Kaliyan
enjoys this scenery , where the Swan couples are resting
very comfortably on huge lotus beds.

Fourth Line of the Paasuram
****************************
"Sennel aar kulai kavari veesum taNN ThiruvayeendhrapuramE".
On another side of the mountain , near the banks of
Garuda Nadhi are many rice fields with thick bunches
of red paddy (Sennel aar kulai). These bunches of rice
paddy are moving gently in the breeze . That reminds
Thirumangai AzhwAr of the imagery , where the bunches of
paddy are performing fan service ( Visiri Kaimkaryam)
to the Swan couples resting on their lotus beds.
The abundance of waters (Jala Samruddhi) at ThiruvahIndhrapuram
makes it a cool place (TaNN ThiruvahIndhrapuram).
