From the Bhakti List Archives
• February 19, 2003
Dear VedAbhimAnis: There has been some confusion in the names of the releases on Upanishads authored by U.Ve. MahA VidvAn Dr.NSA Swamy of Bangalore. The following correctional input from SrI Narasimahn Swamy , son of Dr.NSA Swamy would help to clarify matters . I have added my comments after his inputs: >1. Selections from Upanishads (already released ) >Has selected mantras from 15 upanishads - Isa, Kena, Katha, Prashna, >Mundaka, Mandookya, Taittiriya, Svetashvatara, Mahanarayana, Kaushitaki, >Atharvashira, Subala, Chandogya, Brihadaranyaka and Itareya. >This is just translation and does not have any notes. The translations >as per Sri Rangaramanujamuni's commentary. Though may of the Upanishads >are reasonably complete, there are no notes explaining the mantras. Number of You as sponsors of the project have already recieved your copies ...V.Sadagopan >2. Principal Upanishads - Volume I (just released: Feb 10 ) >Has 9 COMPLETE upanishads - Isa, Kena, Katha, Prashna, Mundaka, >Mandookya, Taittiriya, Svetashvatara, Mahanarayana with translation AND >notes for each mantra. The notes are very useful and are taken from >SriRangaramanujamuni's commentary. I expect a copy to arrive on these shares soon and am making arrangements for some one to hand carry few copies , when they return from India. Please let me know any one of you are now at India and are returning to States in the near future...V.Sadagopan >3. Principal Upanishads - Volume II - Chandogya - under print >Complete Chandogya upanishad with translation and notes. This is another major effort on a Upanishad very dear to AchArya RaamAnujA . This awaits release during April 2003. >4. Principal Upanishads - Volume III - Brihadaranyaka - to be planned >Complete Upanishad with translation and notes. This is another of the Major Upanishads used extensively by the commentators of Brahma SoothrAs and it will be wonderful to have the commentary of SrI RangarAmAnuja Muni. > >I hope I am clear. Kindly let me know if anything is to be clarified. >Though the first publication was under print when we started the first appeal, >we used the funds for first and second publications since there was need for >funds. Hence we have given the first two volumes free to all contributors. The >third publication (Chandogya) can also be given free to earlier contributors. It appears that 40,000 Rupees ( Approximately 850$) would be needed to complete the cover the paper and printing costs for Volume II and III . I am tremendously impressed with the quality of the paper used and printing in easily readable fonts. More than that, the content is the most important item for us . Dr.NSA Swamy has tirelessly assembled these volumes and proof read them to bless us with treasures for the SrI VaishNava Community for times to come . Please help. This is no ordinary fund raising . This is our life line to the ancient wisdom of Upanishads as intrepreted in the SrI VaishNavite tradition by a great AchArya ...
