1.how many vedas are there?
           4,rig,yajur,sama and adharvana.
                2.who divided vedas into four?
               vyasa edited the vedas and divided     
             them 
                 3.on wht basis did vyasa divide the
vedas into these four?
                 the vedas are divided into 4,to suit
the vedic rituals or karmas.there are 4 type of
person(ritviks)who are prominent in the performance of
rituals.
                 4.wht are the names of thse 4 persons
(ritviks)?how they are connected with the four vedas?
              1.HOTA-whose function is to recite
praises and prayers of god .(recites rig veda)
              2.adhvaryu-who is engaged in actual
performance of ritualsfrom the beginning to end
(recites yajur vedas)
               3.UDGATA-sings samans tht is praises if
lord in musical tones (recites sama veda).
                4.brahma-supervisor of rituals(atharva
vedas)
          vedas are also broadly classifeied into
mantra and bramhanas.
       5.wht do the mantras talk about?
        mantras
         1.rig(praise and prayers to god)
          2.yajur(detailed formulas for rituals)
           3.sama(rik mantras set to music
