Dear Bhagavatas, In this mail, let us see how the word "Sri" is defined by elders. In his Alavanadar stotra comentary, while writing on the sloka "kaSSrISSriah? Parama sattva samASrayah kah?", Sri Vaiyakarana Ramanauja Iyengar quotes the following stotra which tells us what is meant by SrI. Sritaasyanyaissarvaih Srayasi ramNam samSrita girah SruNoshi prEyaamsam Sritajana vachah SrAvayasicha SruNAsyEtaddOshAn janani nikhilAm sarva jagatIm guNaiSSrINAsi tvam tadiha bhavatIm SrIriti viduh Piraatti is approached (SritAsi)by all chetanas other than PerumAL. She is the Iswari of Bhagavadvyatirikta samasta chetanas i.e. everyone other than Perumal. She in turn takes refuge (Srayasi) in Her Priyan in Whom Vedas also take refuge (samSrita girah). She listens to the jeevas (SruNOshi) and conveys their grievances (SrAvayasi) to Her ramaNan and also chops off (SruNAsi) all their dOshas i.e liberates the jeevas form their sins.
