Srimadh Azhagiya singar thiruvadikaLE saraNam Sri RanganAyikA samEtha Sri RangarAjan thiruvadikaLE saraNam thiru adhyayana sEvai - part 25 - eettupookkal nadamAdum puL veLiyil ! Dear bAgawathAs, koottukkuL idamAdum guru chEtthiram eettupookkal nadamAdum puL veLiyil kangaL thadumArum minnal oLiyil mownam thAn oru mozhiyAgum meaning: The worms or pupa inside their "koodu" suddenly felt a bright light penetrating their nest and was making even its intermediate home bright. Such home itself now became their guru kshEtthiram. They cannot move out until they are in the next stage of their growth or parinAmam. However, due to AchAryALs grace they get to participate in the "saranagathi thatthuva viLakka ursavam" from whereever they are. That light came from Sri nAdhamuni's desire to conduct the ursavams in an elaborate way to propagate saranagathi thatthuvam to all Srivaishnvas. The flowers that are in yield, in the current season were all doing penance standing on one leg ie., their single stem. Suddenly their wish was granted by Sri SriRamanuja and his Sri Ramanuja udaiyArgaL. So they started walking on the grass marching toward the AyirangAL mandapam to witness the uthsavam and learn the saranagathi thatthuvam. When Sri namperumAL appears on this first day of thiru nedumthAndagam, HIS face is expressing a very bright light. The mAnida or human eyes are used to seeing only lightening for a brief time. If the creator of all lightening comes around and stands and shows HIS thiru muga mandalam for a while the human eyes are unable to even see it. Those eyes of all jivAthmAs are stumbling. ie Sri namperumAL also come faster than lightening to participate in this thiru athyayana uthsavam on this first day, as this is HIS most favourite ursavam. On hearing the details of the pAsurams of thiru nedun thAndagam, everyone's annyAnam is cleared as similar to how vEdhanthi was silenced by Sri Bhattar. Mownam or silence becomes their bAhsai and everyone keep their silence as perumAL hears thiru nedunthAndagam. It is said thirumangai AzhwAr delivered the thiru nedumthAndagam and the thiru kuRunthAndagam and madals only after the holy revelations about thiru utthama nambi and thiru kArthigai deepam as per the ANgyai of Sri Arangan. It is said the Sri nAdamuni once wanted to do upadEsam of yOga sAdhanam to Sri uyyakkONdAr. Sri uyyakkoNdAr replied, "piNgidakka maNam puNaralAmO?" ie There are those samsAris who are nyAna soonyAs and are around us as similar to "nadaip piNam" or a dead body that can only walk and functionally is incapable of realising the purpose of their life. When we have such nadaipiNam around us, how those of us who are sent by Lord to show them the prapatti mArgam, can choose those sAdhanams that brings pleasure to one's individual soul alone ? Is n't it we are supposed to do "thirutthi pANi kOLLanum?" Sri nAdha muni was very pleased with this suggestion. He immediately thought about the AzhwAr's pAsurams that discusses in elaborate details on the saranAgathi thatthuvam. He took several steps to incorporate those pasurams in several of the temple rituals. It is said that Sri nAda muni expanded the thiru adhyayana ursavam started by Sri thiru mangai. Sri Ramanujar introduced many of his shishyALs such as AzhwAn, AndAn, embAr and aruLaLap perumAnAr and made them take a lead role in these thiru adhyayana uthsavam celebrations. During this uthsavam many of the several vyAkyAnams of pasurams are enacted in a very easy to understand way. It is done so such that many samsAris can see these simple abinava nAdagams and easily understand the purpose of the life and seek a sadhAchAryAL and do saranagathi.
