Srimadh Azhagiya singar thiruvadikaLE saraNam Sri RanganAyikA samEtha Sri RangarAjan thiruvadikaLE saraNam thiru adhyayana sEvai - part 16 - tholai varambilA pAvak kottamumE ! Dear bAgawathAs, inap paRavai palasol azhaikka irAvu than vEsham kalaikka thulA arangam kundanthai neerAdavE tholai varambilA pAvak koottamE ! meaning: The morning birds were calling each other of their own flock using their own bAsha. They were calling each other to take a dip in the holy thulA kAuveri at Srirangam. The woman known as night removed her disguise as it became a beautiful morning on an aippasi month. She did so paving way for thousands to do a holy dip in Sri thulA kauveri and receive Sri Arangan's blessings. If one can do a thulA kAuveri snAnam it cleanses their sin atonce and pave the way for them to do saranagathi through an AchAryA and get moksham. Such thulA kauveri snAnam can be done at either Sri AmmA mandapam in Sri rangam with prayers offered to Sri Arangan or at chakkara padittthurai in thiru kudanthai with prayers offerred to Sri ArA amuthan, consecutively for three days. If such is done thulA kAuveri will cleanse all their heaps of sins and pave way for their AchAryA sambandham. PurattAsi: Dasami: Also known popularly as vijaya dasami day, the Lord is taken in a procession to the northeastern corner ie towards kAttu azhagiya singar for conquest or vijaya. HE will be stationed in the outer maNdapam where pooja and prasahdam are offered. He then go on to the horse vehicle and stop opposite to vanni maram. The hunting scene of margayOtsava is enacted here. Cane bows and arrows are of cane with brass heads are brought ceremoniously on elephant back. Priest shoots arrow on behalf of perumAL in different directions. It is also believed that the vaniyAsura was killed during this day. On return Lord and his 2 consorts have thiru manchanam in the centre of gayathiri mandapam or amudhupArai. ThulA: The dhOlOthsavam or the swing festival commences 8 days prior to ekAdasi during the thEy pirAi or dar fortnight of the moon. Sri NamperumAL comes to oonjal mandapam and is seated in the swing or oonchal. As usual HE is accompanied by the 2 nAcchiyArs on the 1st and the 7th days. After the prayers and prasAdham the swing is rocked gently. When it is being rocked, Sri periAzhwAr and Sri kulasEkara AzhwAr pasurams are sung. Formerly they used to sing the most famous "SrirangathAr usal" and "SriranganAyaki usal" delivered by divya kavi Sri piLLai perumAL iyengar. On the 7th day perumAL and nachiyArs visit the "thiruk kottAram" for the ceremony of dhAnyamAnam or measuring and taking stock of paddy. On the 9th day thirthavAri is celebrated. The prayers are then offered to lord as HE is seated on the swing. The oonchal thiru vizhA is done for thAyAr for 7 days in the oonjal mandapam in Her own shrine.
