Best wishes for a Very Happy New year to all bhakta-s!!

I plan to post raama ma.ntraache shloka in maraaThii written by samartha
raamadaasasvaamii with meanings over the next few weeks. I have been
reading these and Shri Sunder Hattangadi  has been
very graciously helping me by providing excellent translation which brings
out the nuances of verse meanings. 

The transliteration follows the ITRANS transliteraion scheme for
devanaagarii. ## is used to toggle between maraaThii and English.

.. jaya jaya raghuviir samartha ..

nako shaastra abhyaasa vitpatti moThii .
jaDe garva taaThaa abhiimaana poTii.n ..
kasaa koNataa neNave aajapaa re .
hare raama haa ma.ntra sopaa japaa re .. 1..

Fie on this great learning and study of scriptures,
Pride, impudence, and self-conceit are its offspring;
Ignorant of ' how ' and ' who ' chants the prayer ceaslessly,
Why not at least recite this simple chant of ' Hare Rama '.   .. 1..

nako ka.nTha shoshhuu.n bahuu.n vedapaaThii.n .
nako tuu.n paDuu.n saadhanaache kapaaTii.n ..
ghaDe karma khoTe.n bahuu to dagaa re .
hare raama haa ma.ntra sopaa japaa re .. 2..

Fie on this drying up of the throat to recite the Vedas,
Beware of getting locked up in penance;
Know the great danger that follows improper actions,
Why not at least recite this simple chant of ' Hare Rama '.   .. 2..

tulaa hii tanuu maanavii praapta jhaalii .
bahuujanmapuNye.n phaLaalaagi.n aalii ..
tilaa tuu.n kasaa go.nvisi vishhayii.n re .
hare raama haa ma.ntra sopaa japaa re .. 3..

This human form you have acquired,
The fruition of many lives of meritorious acts;
Why do you involve it in the pursuit of sensory pleasures?
Why not at least recite this simple chant of ' Hare Rama '.   .. 3..

jarii hii tanuu rakshisii pushhTa kaa.nhii.n .
tarii bhoga to roga ho{ii}la dehii.n ..
vipattiipuDhe.n te na ye bolataa.n re .
hare raama haa mantra sopaa japaa re .. 4..

Even if you protect and nourish this body,
Know for sure it will fall to disease through enjoyment of pleasures,
And to unspeakable calamities.
Why not at least recite this simple chant of ' Hare Rama '.   .. 4..

khuLe hastapaadaadi he bhagna hotii .
diThii ma.nda ho{uu}niyaa.n karNa jaatii ..
tanuu kaMpa sarvaa.ngi.n hotii kaLaa re .
hare raama haa ma.ntra sopaa japaa re .. 5..

The madly active limbs will shatter,
All senses,like hearing will fade and fail;
Tremors will afflict the whole body;
Why not at least recite this simple chant of ' Hare Rama '.   .. 5..
