>From my understanding of Thirumangai Azhwaar's story as posted by Dr V Sadagopan sometime back, his spouse was responsible in a positive way for Thirumangai Azhwaar's conversion into a Vaishnava. In the case of Ramanujacharya, his wife did everything to oppose Upacharam to Paramahamasas and Ramanuja finally had to get rid of her (pardon my language but that illustrates the point). So where does the question of spousal approval come in this case? Jaganath.
