SrI:
SRImathE Gopaladesika mahadesikaya namah:
Dearest Srivaishnavas,
ThiruppAvai- 15th verse- ellE iLankiLiyE! Innam uRangudhiyO?
Parrot like sweet talker (a gopika friend) is now being woken up.
She had gone to bed thinking of Yamuna venture, friendsÂ’ coming to wake her
up, going together singing in praise of KaNNan and talk about his leelas and
guNAs, etc..

Oh friend! (ellE) You sang very beautifully and thatÂ’s why we came here
rushing to wake you up. Just an hour ago, you were singing (when we were
entering the street); why have you gone to sleep again? Is that not enough?
If you sing at least, it is sort of kaimkaryam and anubhavam. What is the
sue of sleeping? Is that not a virOdhi for our kaimkaryam? Are you oldie?
You are a youthful, energetic parrot- so pretty. When someone sleeps, it is
unbearable to even see. Your closed eyes, and shining face so charning- one
can see it for hours together. We need to go for Puja at Yamuna. Get up. Get
up., Get up.

Why are you yelling like this- she angers on her friends. “oh ladies! You
all are so grand devotees and are so much articulated. Why are you yelling
like that? It hurts my ears. As if some danger has struck, you all are
shouting. What will outsiders think? Can you not talk low or come and touch
to wake me up? I would have been sanctified by your touch. “

Oh girl! We know of your smartness and talking. In spite of getting up late,
you have started blaming us for yelling even. Your talking smart actually
enlivens us and make us happy. ThatÂ’s why we keep listening to your smart
and sweet talk.

You are the one who talk so smart and sharp. You are all capable of talking
sugar coated talk which hurts.
[AndAL here shows a GREAT quality of a Srivaishnava- to accept blame from
someone even if it is not there].
The friends say: Let is be so. Let us be what you say. (naanEthaan
Ayidhuga)- Swamy desikan explains this concept so beautifully in his magnum
opus Rahasyathraya saram- 14th chapter SwanishtAbignAna adhikaaram.

In the meanwhile, while the friends admit that they be at fault, immediately
that girl also accepts her follies and realizes that they are great
Bhagawathas and what they said is true that she was talking back to those
who helped by waking her up. So, she pleads forgiveness and also says, “I am
dhushtai; I talked back to you. Please forgive me. “ [naanEthaan Ayiduga].

Oh friend. Leave it. Let us join the Anandham together. Come out.
Has everyone come already?
Oh young parrot like beauty! All except you have assembled here. Come and
count for yourself. This will provide you great jpoy that everyone is here
at your door step, waiting for you to go to Yamuna. Come out. Get up. Listen
to what we will do at Yamuna.
But.. tell me, why are you calling me.. young parrot again and again. ?
There were two birds:
when a stranger approaches one of the birds, it says, “Welcome! Please be
seated. Argyam samparayami; paadhyam samarpayami; etc.. I am indeed blessed
to have your company” and such other pleasing words to this effect. The
other bird, encountering the same stranger, reacts violently with cries of
“Catch him and kill him or skin him alive” etc. The stranger is puzzled by
the ocean of difference in the demeanour of the two birds, though they are
blood brothers. Noting his confusion, the first bird explains-
“MatApi EkA pitApi EkA mama tasya cha pakshiNa:
aham munibhi: aneeta: sa cha aneetO gavAsanai:
   aham muneenAm vacha:shruNOmi, gavAsanAnAm
sa vacha:shruNOti pratyaksham Etat bhavatApi dhrishtam, samsargajA dOsha
guNA bhavanti.”
Says the good bird,” We are brothers, born of the same mother and father.
However, we got separated in childhood. I was brought up by rishis , while
my unfortunate brother fell into the hands of lowly cow-eaters. I grew up
listening to the pious words of rishis, while he was listening day-in and
day-out to the words of cow-eaters. Now you understand why my words are
pleasing, and his, repelling. Thus, oneÂ’s behavioral patterns are molded by
the company one keeps.”
How true! Due to its association with Sri AndAl, her parrot cries “Govinda,
Govinda”. Even if She were to punish the bird by starving it, it still calls
out “Trivikrama, Vamana” etc.
“Koottil irundu KiLi eppOdum Govinda Govinda endru azhaikkum
oottakkodAdu seruppan Agil UlagalandAn endru uyara koovum”. [from Naacchiyar
Thirumozhi]
Girl, you also were brought up like the saintly parrot. ThatÂ’s why we
addressed you so. Please do not get angry with us.

For good deeds that one does, we need to pray to KaNNan so that He removes
all hurdles that stand in the way of parforming such grand deed. ThatÂ’s why
KaNNan is sent with us by elders.
Oh.. KaNNan is so capable or what?- you may ask.

He kills the tough huge kuvalayaaapeetam elephant; [when KaNNan reached
KamsaÂ’s palace, the mahout jumped onto the elephant and said something in
its ear, pricked the same with his spear. The elephant angrily attacked
KaNNan. KaNNan broke its ivory tusker like male lion, and killed the mahout
with the tusker and keeled the elephant as well. ]

maaRRaanai maaRRazhaikka vallaan - can be interpreted this way: says Srimath
Azhagiya Singar – as per Andal ThiruvuLLam. There was one Poundraka
Vasudevan, who was KaNNanÂ’s friend. He dressed like KaNNan and also had toy
Sankhu, ChakrA and had a wooden GaruDA etc.. and behaved like KaNNan
himself. He painted GaruDa, fixed some wheels, and made it fly for two feet.
He told everyone that he is Swamy and asked others to do Puja for him. He
also went around saying that actual KaNNan (the Lord) is a duplicate. He is
the original. He will kill KaNNan soonest and establish his supremacy, etc..
He also crated lot of trouble for Bhagawathas who perform Aradhanam to
KaNNan. Devarishi Narada arranged for a battle with KaNNan strategically to
end this drama. He came on painted Garuda and had the toy Sankhu and ChakrA.
KaNNan was happy to see him in such gawdy form. Narada.. How nicely he has
painted! See. How has he painted the wooden GaruDa and the toy chakrA!
Poundraka Vasudeva got wild. What is the use of holding Sankhu ChakrA, if
you do not know how to use them? Are you not ashamed? Why donÂ’t you drop
them? (so that he can take them)
KaNNan said, “I will not drop them; I will aim at you.”
In that case, I will crush the same to pieces.
Thus, the chakrA was aimed and Kannan killed him (vallaanai konRaanai-
maaRRaanai maaRRazhaikka vallaan).
Maayanai- He is most mysterious and wonderful Lord-
Once Narada wanted to see how KaNNan (later) was spending time with 16000
wives. So, he visited each one. And in each one, KaNNan was in a different
scenario, and was doing different things. One place: He was performing
Sandhyavandhanam; other place, he was doing OupAsanam. Other house, he and
his wife were feeding the child. In one house, He was doing thiruvArAdhanam.
In every house, he was doing something different aided by His respective
wife. Narada was about to fall unconscious. Narada saw from all 16000 house,
16000 Krishnans coming out and became one to go to the Assembly to do his
Royal duties. And when he was back, He became 16000 and entered into the
respective houses.
He is Maa maayan.

We need to go and wake up such a maa maayan and then go to Yamuna. If you,
the youthful, parrot like sweet talker call Him to wake Him up, He will get
up happily. Come out.
They walk together.........
If there is any merit, the credit goes to the great commentary by Srimath
Azhagiya Singar.
Any errors / mistakes are due to my lack of understanding.
