Dear Members of this group In the light of the subject "to be or not to be", I wanted to share some information with you all. Many of us are confounded about the right decision in many a trying situation where we are outwitted by the circumstances and yet repentant due our knowledge of some dharma at the same time. During my last trip to Chennai (a month ago) I learnt that Sri Krishna Premi Swamigal is going to conduct a Sadhas (a congregation) of learned pundits, gurus, acharyas, well versed with dharma- shastram, from various mutts, ashrams, from different corners of india to discuss on some "highly practical topics" confronting us in the modern age. Totally there are 50 topics, and it would stretch across 3-days, and the concluding summary speech would be delivered by Sri Krishna Premi Swamigal and the proceedings of the sadhas would come out as a book. Some practical questions that common people ask are also there such as: 1) if our religion's base-text (Vedas) are not to be read by some who belong to the religion, then why should they call themselves part of this religion ? 2) is it wrong if we read out the temple's prayers in the local language ? Why should they be recited only in Sanskrit ? Cant they be translated ? The topics range from these, to those such as practial difficulties confounding householders regarding "sraartham", "amaavasya tarpanam" etc. I just glanced at the sheet and got to look at the topics and could just remember a few. I could spend more time and type out a lot more in a later posting. But the very last topic is a bit different. "What is the one dharmam that can be upheld by everyone, irrespective of the time, place, irrespective of the sex, creed, caste, and is the highest virtue" ? This topic would be lectured by Sri Muralidhara Swamigal. I think (if i read correctly), this is going to be conducted in R.R. Sabha, Mylapore from the 1st - 3rd Feb, 2003. I am planning to attend it as it also falls on a weekend. If some from this group are interested, please try to attend also. I shall also try my best to post some info from what I hear during my presence. I dont know anything about the sponsorships part of it. I shall find out and post when I get to know more about it. Those interested can then contact the appropriate authorities and do the needful.
