-----Original Message----- From: RAJI SRIDHAR [mailto:sridharaji@yahoo.com] Dear Members, thvayi rakshathi rakshakai: kimanyai:| thvayichArakshathi rakshakai: kimanyai:| ithi nischitha dhE: srayAmi nithyam nruharE VegavathI tadAsrayam thvAm || Sri kAmAsikAshtakam, slOkam # 8 Swamy Desikan sings the praise of Sri Nrusimhan at Velukkai, on the southern banks of river Vegavathi. In this slOkam, Swamy very movingly observes, Oh Nrusimha! When you are out there to protect (us), where is the need for others (protectors)? And if you decide not to, then of what use is such protection from others? I am absolutely convinced of this and therefore I surrender to You, Oh! Lord on the banks of Vegavathi, seeking refuge. Very similarly, in Sri ashtabhujAshtakam slokam # 6 Swamy reiterates the concept of prapatti while singing of our Lord at Attabuya karam (kAnchi), where He is said to have doubled his hands to protect us in double quick time!! This slokam starts with the famous gajEndra mOksham episode. .... gajEndra rakshA dvaritham bhavantham.... ............ tvadEka tandram kamalA sahAya svEnaiva mAm rakshithu marhasi thvam| thvayi pravrutthE mama kim prayAsai: thvai apravrutthE mama kim prayAsai || With Sri Lakshmi by His side interceding on our behalf, if Lord srIman NarAyana decides to extend His protection (to us), there is nothing else we need to do. If He decides otherwise, there is little else we can do.
