Sri Amudhan SamprOkshanam and ChAthur mAsya sankalpam - Part 13
While all the tanks and theertthams in thiru nel vEli
area are full of water, the tanks in chOla dEsam it tanjore
and trichy area are dry. The famous swasthik shaped tank in
thiru veLLARai is hoplessly dry and so is the Uraiyoor tank.
The priests in thiru veLLaRai were literally pleading for
some money for them as their income is so insufficient.
The thiru veLLiyangudi Sri kola val vil Raman temple
(vadakalai sampradAyam) gopuram fell down a few years ago.
It was completely renovated by Sri Krishna prEmi's major
efforts and the samprokshanam is due in late August as well.
There is a lone Srivaishnanva priest residing in this village
(thennAchArya sampradAyam). Last time it was renovated by Sri
thiru kudanthai Andavan who also conducted the samprOkshanam
in 1974. The theertthams in this temple are dry completeley
and the banks are all eroded. Sri Krishna prEmi has also
constructed a temple for Sri Srinivasa perumAL in sEngAnoor,
the birth place of Sri Periya vAcchAn pillai, very near to
thiru veLLiyangudi.
The tank in front of the thEr azhundur temple (vadakalai
sampradAyam) is also dry and the banks are eroded. The head
priest (thennAchArya sampradAyam) is leading an effort to
construct a mirror room or "kaNNAdi aRai" for this very
charming Lord Sri Amaruviappan. adiyEn gave him Rs 50 and he
immediately received it for that kainkaryam. ie., He was
saying that though I gave the money for him, he is diverting
all his income for this kainkaryam. One mirror, costs Rs 1400.
They need more than several 1000's for this.
Most of the tanks for the divya dEsams in chOla nAdu (around
40 of the 108 DD's) are in this similar state wherein the
tanks that are the puNNiya theertthams are all dry and their
banks are all eroded. Sri poRRAmaRai tank of thiru kudanthai
was in a similar state earlier. But many thanks to the local
administration dept of state government, the tank was cleaned
and peripheral walls were raised and wire gauged and painted.
The underground "duct" from kauveri that supplies water to
this tank and maintains, was said to have been "interfered"
due to some unknown constructions. A local pump was installed
and water was pumped in full. The motor pump is now as such
designated for the tank such that the water will be
maintained in full capacity for all 365 days. Thanks to the
samprOkshanam efforts.
ahOrAthra pushkarani in Sri Oppiliappan kOil is going through
renovations as its northern banks were eroded. The main
problem in those tanks that have water is that those tanks
serve as the huge water reservoir for the entire village.
example mani mutthAru of nAcchiar koil is now a huge tank and
the entire village uses it for bathing cleaning etc etc. The
thiru kudanthai tank is protected now as similar to swami
pushkarani of thiru pathi. Bathing using soap and as well
washing in this poRRAmArai is not possible now. But most
other tanks that have water and are situated in a village are
used for everything these days.
