How can we be certain that it is Arangan that the Azhwar had in mind?
There are 5 Kshetrams for Lord Ranganatha-Pancha Ranga Kshetrams.
How can we be certain that the Lord resting on the serpent bed is
the Lord of Srirangam? If it was an unambiguous statement like
Sri Ramanujacharya's Sri Ranganatha Gadyam salutation "Sriranga
Sayinam Asmat Swmainam Prabuddha", it leaves no room for doubt.
Throw in Srirangapattanam and Ananthapadmanabha Swamy of
Tiruvananthapuram, we have even more forms of our Lord to enjoy!
Therefore, I am still unconvinced that verse 9 refers to the Lord
of Srirangam (who by the way is extremely dear to me), especially
in light of the fact that NammAzhwar has performed SharaNagati to
the Divya Mangala Vigrahams of several Archa Murthis. If this
argument is used against Tiruvenkatan it can be applied against
Arangan as well. You can't have the cake and eat it too!

Namo Narayana,

Muralidhar Rangaswamy
