Please read again and again the summary of verse 8 in this set. The Azhwar has specifically stated that there is no difference between Parama Padam and Tiruvenkatan. This constitutes the necessary and sufficient condition to establish Tiruvenkatan as the foremost DD. Hopefully, there will be more "floor-crossers" after reading this wonderful verse! Namo Narayana, Muralidhar Rangaswamy --------------------------Unquote----------------------------------- Well, please do read the next verse (No.9) where in NammAzhwAr says in the last two lines ".. pazhudhil tholpughazhp pAmbaNaippaLLiyAi thazhuvumARu aRiyEn unathALgaLE" Very clearly this is our Arangan in his mind and he also says "He doesn't know any other feet to surrender". Here thazhuvudhal is to be interpreted as surrendering. He might have said there is no difference between paramapadham and thiruvEngadam but see whose feet he is referring to surrender. Well now this seems that NammazhwAr while he did surrender in his 6th decad to ThiruvEngadamudaiyan, he is also surrendering to Arangan with this paasuram. He also says "ThannoppArillappan", about the ThiruviNNagar emberumAn and adds "..ninRa AdhippirAn niRka, maRRai theivam nAdudhirE", meaning why are you going to any other perumAL leaving the great AdhippirAn at Thirukkurugoor. He also praises, Thirukkudanthai ArAvamudhan as the best. This pAsuram is a real classic. In the 5th decad 8m pathigam, 8th verse, the AzhwAr says "..thaLarAvudalam enadhu Avi sarindhu pOm pOdhu iLayAdhu una thAL orungap pidithup pOdha isai neeyE". Meaning :- when my soul is getting out of my body when my life is nearing its end, please do grant me the boon of making it to your feet. What does these point out to. All the AzhwArs have praised one emberumAn as the best when they sing about Him and the other as the best when they sing about the other. But if this is the case what is the basis of deciding which is the best divya dEsam. It is certainly on the whole single prabhandams of Thondar-adip-podi-AzhwAr dedicated to just Arangan and the mixed reflections of ThiruppANAzhwAr where he can no longer resist thinking of Arangan while singing about SrinivAsan. Once again a classic case of starting with thiruvEngadamudaiyAn and ending with Arangan by NammAzhwAr too. I am certain there will be no floor crossers.
