Hello, Ranga wrote: -- stuff deleted. Wouldn't it be better if the money is just spent on daily maintenance of not-so-well-to-do temples? Perhaps this is the actual intention, only it doesn't come through very clearly in the post. - Ranga Instead of getting into this dilemma of why book ? why not temple and further raise some basic questions and discussions on fundas of faith etc..we can as well take up this issue of maintenance of the not-so-well-to-do temples. I agree, we all have such dilemmas. But the point is, what do e we end up with after the dilemma is over. If we just think why cause X why not cause Y and dont end up in either of them it doesn't serve the intended purpose. This issue of maintenance of old temples is definitely a welcome suggestion. 2 years back when i visited "navathiruppathis", nine dhivya dhesams in and around thirunelveli, i realised the pathetic state of many temples. Some were totally in a dilapidated condition. For some the very access itself is very difficult. we have to walk thro thorns filled barren lands ( i dont remember the exact place). One good thing that i noticed was in one such temple they were laying cement flooring around the temple and were doing some repair works. Mrs. YGP ( Padma Seshadri Bala bhavan's headmistress) has donated some money towards this it seems. Mr. Dileepan who is presently touring some of the dhivya dhesams in the south could tell the state of the temples even better, once he is back ( Aug 15?) Our group could take this up and definitely do something. we can atleast arrange for regular poojas, some basic structure, safety etc. Some BIG temples like thirupathy, srirangam, thiruvallikkENi.. have a lot of Sponsors/caretakers. Those remote ones need proper attention. ( ThirumaNGgai aazhwaar would feel bad that even after more than 1000 years all the places he visited and wrote paasurams about, are still in the same condition!!!!) KS/PD/Mani can take this up if possible. viji Vijayaraghavan T. R. viji@coe.wvu.edu Tel. (304)296-3390 (Home) 293-6371 x542 (Office)
