ekaantha raamayya

Dear srivaishNava perunthagaiyeer, I am sure our moderator will be kind enough to allow this write up to reach all members on the topic of "Ekaantha raamayya". The Sanskrit English dictionary by Monier williams - in page 230 - for this word "Ekaantha", gives the following meanings. - a lonely or retired or secret place - in a lonely or solitary place - alone - apart - a single part or portion - the only end or aim - exclusiveness, absoluteness, necessity - devotion to one object - worship of one being - directed towards or devoted to only person or one person only. One or more bhakthaas who have dealt with this krithi in the list, have taken the meaning as stated in last three lines above. I am taking the meanings of "exclusiveness, absoluteness" for this word "Ekaantha" and then start writing on this quality of raama. Now if you read the krithi line again "Etula brOthuvO theliya ekaantha raamayya" oh raamaa, the absolute lord, how are you going to save me, I do not know. "Exclusiveness" or "absoluteness" of raama is confirmed by none other than sri krishna himself when he says "raama: sasthraBhruthaam aham" in bhagavath geetha ch. 10 slokam 31. Meaning -I am that raama, who wears or handles all these sasthrams - the weapons controlled by manthraas. In sri vishNu sahasra naamam also there is a naama "sarva sasthra Bhruthaam vara: - in naama 765 [number according to bhattar bhaashyam] . in his vyaakhyaanam sri bhattar says "in krishna avathaaram - naraka jaraasanDhaadhi samarEshu sarva sasthraBhruthaam vara: yathaa" - meaning- in krishna avathaara, the lord has shown that he is a master or great one in wielding all types of weapons as evident in the fights against narakaasura, jaraasandha etc. hence sarva----" [the basic difference between asthram and sasthram being, asthram is only an arrow - tool, depends on the power and ability of the man who shoots it. Whereas a sasthram is an arrow or tool controlled by manthrams having controlling dhEvathais, unless that athi-dhEvathai is invoked using the respective manthrams, the tools are useless. Please recall in the kaakaasura episode raama used a tharbai - a grass as brahmaasthram] Swamy dhEsikan says "thOlaadha thani veeran thozhudha koil" in adhikaara sangraham verse 42, when he talks about the srirangam temple. - thOlaadha means one who has never met any failure, or one who is incomparable, - thani - exclusive - absolute - veeran - the brevity embodiment. Swamy dhEsikan says, "He, himself, such an exclusive brave raaman worships or bows before this lord ranganaathan, such a srirangam temple, hey, bhakthaas, you can now think of the greatness of this ranganaatha". so whether it is raama or krishna as stated above it is one and only naaraayaNa who is Ekaantha, the exclusive, absolute lord, who has to save and give his su-dharsana. In all our puraaNams there are several instances where the lord uses his sudharsana: the chakra to destroy the devilish and give su: dharsana - his auspicious vision to his dear devotee. Sudharsana the chakra is the mighty sasthram and hence he is sarvasasthraBruthaamvara: - such a raama or is it krishna.
