cosmic creation
From the Bhakti List Archives

Greetings and respects to all! I read this in a previous post on this list by Shri Madhavakannan. O son of Kunti! At the end of the Cosmic cycle, (during praLyam) all (- repeat-ALL)- enter into My nature, and at the beginning of another cycle, by My free will, and potency, I create them again. (I don't remember the actual slokam) I am deeply interested in the cosmic evolution of the Universe and am a big fan of Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking who discuss the Big Bang theory and the "birth" of time and the "universe". There seem to be interesting parallels between these theories and our own precept of "destruction and re-creation" by Sriman Narayana. I would love to hear from other learned members who could share their views on the above. Also, there seems to be more than a mere coincidence to the avatars of Vishnu starting with Matsya avatar and the evolution of life. Matsya - Life begins in water Kurma - Amphibious forms - life emerges onto land Varaha - Primitive mammalian life forms Narasimha - Man-Animal - first stage of evolution of man Vaamana - Dwarf form - actual fossils show early man was very short Parasuramar - Hunter with the axe-one of the earliest weapons invented Ramar - Nomadic period and invention of the bow and other weapons. Balaram/krishna - settlers, domesticate animals and evolution of art (music) Buddha - realisation of self and the power of mind over body kalki - ? Could some learned member write in length if there is anything in the scriptures about the above parallels?
