The key verses are verses 7 and 9, which deserve further examination. The construction of the bridge is essentially the crux of SharaNagati, fundamental to Bhagavad Ramanuja darshanam. In this act, every being from the tiny squirrel to the huge bears and monkeys could enjoy being near the Lord, bearing eloquent testimony to his soulabhyam. At another level, it is indicative of the fact that the ocean of Samsara, which is most difficult to cross by other means is readily crossed by performing SharaNagati to His lotus feet. Adiyen is reminded of the Ramayana Charma Shlokam declaration "dadAmyEtat vratam mama". The Lord's soulabyam esures that in the process of granting refuge to Prapannas all are treated equally (regardless of caste, creed, sex, background, and accomplishment). Testimony to this can be seen from the fact that Lord Rama was just as grateful for the efforts of the squirrel as he was for the efforts of the giant bears and monkeys. The bridge is also indicative of the fact that Lord Himself serves as the means for Prapannas to cross the turbulent waters of Samsara. Swami Desikan glorifies this aspect in the Mahaveera Vaibhavam salutations "Saditha sethupatha seema seemanthita samudra", and "sakruth prapanna jana samrakshaNa dikshita" Verse 9 is a consummate illustration of the Ramayana vakyam "mama va trayambakasyava". In the war against the Rakshasas, the vanara army suffered heavily on account of maya tactics employed by the former. At this juncture, Lord Rama joined the fray and overcame the asuras tactics with ease. At this juncture, the Lord remarked "Whose arrows are more powerful mine or Shiva's". Swami Desikan refers to this in the Mahaveera Vaibhavam salutation "Trayambaka samadhika GhorAstrAdambarA" Thanks again for your wonderful note.
