sri:
srimathE irAmanujAya nama:

Following up to Sri. Satakopan's article on
Srimath Azhagiya Singar's upanyAsam on the
8th pAsuram of kaNNinuN siRuththAmpu:

aruL koNDAdum adiyavar inpuRa
aruLinAn avvarumaRayin poruL
aruL kondu aayiram inn tamizh pAdinAn
aruL kandIr ivvulahinil mikkathE

The following is from an upanyAsam by
u.vE. vELukkudi varadAchAryAr swAmi.

The phrase "aruL koNdAdum adiyavar" can be
interpreted in two ways. One is that, His
adiyArs who extol His grace (koNdAdum). The
other is to break it as "aruL koNdu Adum
adiyavar". Here it means His adiyArs whose
every movement is based on His grace (aruL
koNdu (nadai) Adum adiyavar).

Three of the 4 AchAryAs who have commented
on these pAsurams have mentioned that both
the second and third lines of the 8th
pAsuram refer to Swami Nammazhvar only.

One AchAryA (I think nanjeeyar), has
commented that the 2nd line ("aruLinAn
avvarumaRaiyin poruL") actually refers
to geethAchAryan, while the 3rd line
("aruL koNdu Ayiram inthamizh") refers
to nammAzhvAr. The 2nd line thus refers
to the geethopathEsam, where krishna
paramAthma gave us all the meanings of
the vEdAs.

So, while we may think the mathurakavi
did not sing about srIman nArayaNa directly
("thEvumaRRaRiyEn"), in fact he did sing about
sri pArthasArathy of thiruvallikkENi and
that avan "aruL koNdu Ayiram inthamizh"
pAdinAr nammAzhvAr.

adiyEn, mathurakavi thAsan,
