Dear Devotees of Sri Raamaa :

Pallavi of Naatai Krithi :
************************

The pallavi begins with two majestic salutations .

" JAGADHAANANDHAKAARAKA JAYA JAANAKEE
PRAANA NAYAKA "

Sri Raamaa is the sarva rakshaka , satya vratha ,
dharma vigrahan . He accepts the saraNaagathi
performed by even those , who have committed
apacharams to Him and he removes their fears
and blesses them with aanandham . Saint Thyagaraajaa
introduces his ishta daivatham as that aanandha kaarakan
or producer of aanandham for all the jeevans of world .
The saint salutes Raamaa as the Jagadhaanandhakaarakan ,
who treated his devotees ( VibhishaNan ) and enemies
( kaakasuran ) alike , once they sought His protection
and gives them aanandham through freedom from fear .

This Jagadhaananthakaarakan removed the fear of Sugreevaa
and made him the king of Kishkindhaa . He accepted the
saraNAgathi of VibhishaNan and blessed him with the kingdom
of Lankhaa . He is the one , who made the whole world happy
by using His thunderous Kodhandam and sent swift moving
arrows to destroy the evil RaavaNaa .He is the producer of
aanandham as Ramachandraa for the ocean of Raghu vamsam .
He is the cause of aanandham for the kumudha pushpam
(night blooming blue lotus ) of Sitaa Devi by being the moon
to her and make her blossom with happiness and joy .
He is also like the moon for the neelothpala pushpam
--another flower that blooms at the sight of the moon --
of Sugreevaa's heart .

Sri Raamaa's Jagadhaanandhakaarakathvam is captured
well in one of the slokams of BhodEndraaL .
He was a great sanyasi and Raama chaitanyaa .
BodendhraaL was a Sankaraacchaaryaa of Kanchi
Kamakoti peetam . He renounced his post as Achaarya
and retired to a village on the banks of Cauveri to meditate on
the glories of Raama naamam and blessed us withthe most
sonorous poem known as Raama KarNaamrutham .
The particular slokam capturing the jagadhaanandha
svarupam of Sri Raamaa is as follows :

Sri Ramachandra karuNaakara RaghavEndra
rajEndrachandra Raghuvamsa samudrachandra I
Sugreeva nethtra yugaLothpala poorNachandra
Sitaamana: kumudha chandra namO namasthE II

The first naamaa , " Om Jagadhaanandhakaarakaaya nama: "
fits very well with the thoughts contained in the above slokam .

The second naama of the Nattai krithi is : Om Jaya Janaki
praaNa nayakaaya nama: " . Here , the sadhguru salutes
Seethaaraaman as Jaanaki RamaNan . O the life breath
and Lord of the auspicious Jaanaki devi ! May all mangaLams
befall you ! You are victorious due to the sambhandham of
Janakee maathaa . PallaaNdu , PallaaNdu pallaayiratthaaNdu
to You ! Thus , the saint of Thiruvaiyaaru performed
mangalAsAsanam for Jaanaki praaNa nathan . This pallaaNdu
is an echo of the portion of dhyaana slokam of Sri Raama :
" Seethaa mukhaambhOruha sanchareeka: nirantharam
mangaLam aatanOthu " . This benedictory salutation
equates Sri Raama as the bramaram ( King bee ) that circles
around the lotus-like face of Jaanaki devi .

ANUPALLAVI VAAKYAMS
****************************

gaganaathipa sathkulaja raaja raajEsvara !
sugunaakara sura sEvya bhavya dhaayaka sadhaa sakala
(Jagadhaananthakaaraka )

Gaganam means heaven or sky. The Lord (athipan )
of the sky(gaganaathipan ) is Suryan . Sri Raamabhadran
was born in the auspicious vamsam of Surya devan (sathkulajan ) .
Hence Sri Raama is saluted here as " Om gaganaathipa
sathkulajaaya nama: " . Sri AnjanEyan in his Sitaa-Raama
sthothram salutes Sri Raamaa's and Sitaas" vamsams
alternatively in this way :

RaghooNaam Kuladeepam cha
nimeenaam kuladeepikaam I
Soorya vamsa samuthbhoothaam
soma vamsa samudhbhavaam II

The next three salutations of the anupallavi
vaakyams are :

Om sugaNaakaraaya nama :
Om sura sEvyaaya nama :
Om bhavya sadhaa sakala daayakaaya nama:

Sri Raama is the treasure house of all auspicious
attributes (guNaas ) befitting the definition of His name
as " RamayatE ithi Raama : " . He generates joy and bliss
in the world through his suguNaas and thus has earned
the title as Jagadhaanandhakaarakan . This suguNaakaran
and His anantha kalyaaNa guNaas have been described
by the following salutation of adhi kavi , Valmeeki this way :

tvam hi satyavratha soorO dharmikO dhruta vikrama : I
pareeshyakaari smruthimaan nisrushtaathmaa suhrudhsu cha II

Sage Valmiki's description of Ramaa as the one , who never breaks
his word(satyavratha: ) , valorous ( soora: ) , the observer
of dharmaa (dhaarmika : ) , one with the firm and unfailing power in
the battle field (dhruta vikrama : ) , one who arrives at the right
conclusion by examining all aspects of a question (pareeshyakaari ) ,
one who remembers His friends and who is indebted to those ,
who helped Him are the special attributes that earn Him the title
given by Saint Thyagaraajaa as "suguNaakaran " .

The next salutation of the Saint is : " Om sura sevyaaya nama: " .
Sura means the devaas . He was sought by the devAs ,who
begged for His intercession to ward off the injustices caused by
the evil RaavaNaa . The reference is to the beginning sections
of Baala khaandam , where the devaas assemble on the banks of
the milky ocean and pray to Sriman NaarAyaNaa to save them
from the akramams of RavaNaa . The Lord listened to them
and agreed to descend on earth (avathaaram ) as the son
of Dasarathaa to destroy RavaNaa .

The final salutation of the anupallavi section is :
" Om bhavya sadhaa sakala daayakaaya nama : " .
This salutation relates to the inner meaning of the name
Raama and the blessings that accrue to one , who meditates
on that Taaraka naamam . For those Bhavyaaas , who prostrate
before Him or hold both their hands together in anjali mudraa
or perform saraNaagathi , the natha sathyan showers all of His
choicest blessings on them without let (sadhaa sakal daayakan ) .
In this regard , He is the Achyutha Varadaraajan .

The following 35 Raamaashtotthara naamaas are very close
to the meanings to the 8 naamaas used by Saint Thyagaraajaa
in his pallavi and anupallavi ashtottharams :
