Re: Gita and Ahimsa

I dont understand why we should read Gandhi's commentary on the Gita. Gandhi was just a freedom movement fighter who had his own views of the world. Whatever revolutionary movement that politicians attribute to Gandhi, such as taking sudras (harijans) to temple, Ramanuja had done almost 1000 years back. But not many politicians seem to even mention the revolution of Ramanuja in shouting the Ashtakshari etc. Ahimsa also is not something that everyone should follow. The dharma for a warrior and a king is quite different from that of a ascetic. The common ahimsa theory is the major problem of the land, basically coming from the Buddhist philosophies. Ahimsa also is not possible unless one dedicates all the actions to the Lord and lives entirely for the lord. Only then is a state where he/she means no harm to anyone either by act or mentally. Till then we are better off reading our Acharyas commentaries on the Gita, besides God himself had spoken to them at various times, which proves the superiority of their commentaries. -- pradeep -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Group Home: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bhakti-list Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
