Dear Sri Mani, U.ve.Dr.K.S.Narayanachariar, Aasthana Vidwan of Sri Parkala Matham, has written a small write up on the life of Sri Parasara Bhattar, in the introduction to Sri Guna Ratna Kosam. Here is what is mentioned about the date of Sri Parasara Bhattar: "Most Scholars place him between 1123 CE - 1151 CE, crediting him with some 28 years of life. Other's say that he lived for 32 years. While not disputing his year of birth, Sri.U.Ve.S.Krishnaswamy Iyengar of Tiruchi places him between 1122 and 1174 CE, allowing 52 years of life. Recently, U.Ve.Dr.M.A.Venkatakrishnan argued with evidences in a lecture at Melkote, presided over by me(Dr.KSN) in 1990, on the basis of evidences available from : 1.) Guruparampara Sources 2.) Aitihyas 3.) Commentaries on Thiruvaymozhi 4.) VArthamAlai (string of flowers in the form of sayings of great masters in the tradition) that Bhattar must have lived for over some 63 or 64 years of ages, and when elders say that he was short lived, it must have been in comparison with the lives of: Bhagavan Ramanuja (120 years) Kuresa (118 years) Embar (119 years) EngalAlvan (100 years) AndAn (105 years) Nambillai (105 years) and even NanjIyar (95) === Who was bhattar's own disciple" Hope this helps. Regards, Adiyen Ramanuja Daasan, Malolan Cadambi "Sri Parashara Bhatta:, mama sannidhatte sada hrudi" ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
