Muralidhar Rangaswamy for summarizing the pravachanam given by prakritam swami srimad abhinava vageesha parakala desikan, on the auspicious occasion of the Satabhishekam of Poundareekapuram Srimad Andavan Sri Gopaladesika mahadesika swami, held last month in Srirangam [Vikrama: panguNi rohiNi, SaShti]. Sri. Muralidhar Rangaswamy's knowledge in Sampradayam and Samskrit has resulted in so many wonderful articles on the online discussion groups that readers like me can learn from and enjoy - he has studied Sanskrit under Sri. Rangapriya mahadesikan swami [who received sanyaasa mantropadesam from the previous (35th.) swami srimad Abhinava Ramanuja parakaladesikan]. Sri. Rangapriya SwamigaL is also a close contemporary of prakritam Poundareekapuram Srimad Andavan swami, the two of them having undergone (in their respective poorvasramas) vedanta kalakshepam at the feet of 33rd. Parakalaswami Srimad Abhinava Ranganatha brahmatantra swatantra mahadesikan. Both these future yatheeswarars obtained great brahmagnyanam through the anugraham of 33rd. Parakalaswami - and they still maintain very close ties. It is a well known fact, that while Sri. Rangapriya swami was cured of his speech impediment as a child by Sri Srinivasa Mahadesikan Swami, [the founding Acharya of Srimad Poundarikapuram Ashramam], the present Poundareekapuram Andavan Swami continues the Parakala mutt tradition of hayagreeva upasanam through a lakshmi hayagreevar sannidhi within the asramam's inner precincts. Such cross-pollination of vidwat and acharya anugraham have resulted in the existence of mahacharyas/yatheeswarars in our midst today, who tirelessly strive to propogate Sri. sampradayam. Let us all take a minute to reflect not on the differences, but the overwhelming commonalities among the various acharya paramparais of Sri. sampradayam. Let us then, pay our tributes to the Jeer of the oldest monastic institution in Swami Desikan's tradition, by honoring his 67th. thirunakshatram. adiyEn hereby appeals to bhaktas to get involved and peform such kainkyaram at this opportune moment. We only have a couple more days to send our kulam/gotram/nakshatram information to Parakalamutt. Let us do so in earnest, and thanks for your involvement. Please see: http://www.parakalamutt.org/festivals/jeeyartn.shtml Following is the wonderful summary of Jeer's pravachanam by none other than Sri. Muralidhar - whose family is extremely close to Parakala Swami, who as a child learnt Swami Desikan stotrams from prakritam parakalaswami (then in poorvasramam), and who as an infant was indulged by swami ("swaami ivarai thooki viLaiyaadinaar"!!)..... **************************************************************** SrimatE Gopaladesika MahadesikAya NamaH Adiyen's recent trip to India for attending AsmadhAcharyan's SathAbhisheka MahOthsavam was memorable for a number of reasons. Adiyen's visit commenced with a magnificent darshanam of Bhagavan Lakshmi Hayagrivar at the Nanganallur Hayagrivar Temple, which paved the way for a number of memorable Bhagavat, Bhagavata, and Acharya Sevais and Anugrahams. In this posting adiyen wishes to summarize the upanyasam of H.H. 36th Jeeyar of Parakala Matham on the occasion of AsmadhAcharyan's Sathabhisheka mahOthsavam. H.H. Prakritam Jeeyar Swami began the upanyasam with a prayer to his Aradhana Murthy, Bhagavan Hayagriva, from Swami Desikan's Hayagriva Stothram salutation "dishanthu mE dhEva sadhAthvadhIyA: dayatharangAnucharA: katakshA: shrOthrEShu pumsAm amrutham ksharanthIm sarasvathIm samshrita kAmaDhEnum". This verse unfailing confers the benefit of unmitigated flow of speech since it is the condensed essence of the Udgita Vak embodied by Bhagavan Hayagriva. H.H. continued "I was extremely sick recently. Thus, when the mahOtsavam celebrations commenced, I was doubtful of my attendance. However, at the last minute due to the grace of Bhagavan Hayagriva, I was able to get relief from my sickness and attend this celebration. I have known this Swami (prakrutham Andavan Swami of Srimad Poundarikapuram Ashramam) for a long time. Swami spent time at Parakala Matham for Kalakshepam under a purvacharya and His Bhakti for Bhagavan Hayagriva is enormous. I am convinced that it is His Bhakti for Bhagavan Hayagriva, which granted me relief from my sickness and enabled my presence for this occasion. This Swami is known for his Atma GuNas-most notably Daya. This makes Him an ideal Acharya in the manner of Lord Krishna. The Narayana Upanishad glorifies Lord Krishna as BrahmaNyO DevakiputrO BrahmaNyO MadhusUdhanOm. What is it that makes Kannan the Parabrahman and carry out his role of GitAcharyan to perfection? Undoubtedly this is due to the fact that Kannan is none other than Bhagavan Hayagriva incarnate. Why? The presiding deity over all knowledge is Bhagavan Lakshmi Hayagriva and this includes nyAsa vidya, which extols the doctrine of SharaNagati (the path of unconditional, total surrender to His Lotus feet). The path of Prapatti is enunciated in the Svetshavtara upanishad salutation "Yo brahmaNAnAm vidhadhAti...". What does Shveta Ashva mean? It means a white horse? What does this denote? None other than Bhagavan Hayagriva. Thus it is Bhagavan Hayagriva, who is out of his mercy and desire to bless mankind with the central message of the Upanishads, (i.e., the Bhagavad-Gita and specifically the Charma shlokam) chose to reveal his paratvam as Kannan. Let us now consider the avataram of Bhagavan Nrusimha. His avataram is no doubt athyAdhbhutam. He is glorified in the dashavatara stothram as "yadruccha harE". How did this avataram come about? Not to protect Prahlada or to destroy HiraNyan to free the Devas from his persecution, but to uphold the words of His Bhagavata, Prahlada. his aspect is extolled in the Srimad Bhagavatam salutation "Satyam vidhAthum nijabhruthya bhAshitham..."Let us focus on nijabhruthya Bhashitham. Who is the presiding deity of speech? It is none other than Bhagavan Hayagriva. Therefore, it is again Bhagavan Hayagriva who was responsible for the avataram of Bhagavan Nrusimha. With this, I once again salute the greatness of this Swami (Srimad Andavan Swami of Srimad Poundarikapuram Ashramam) and thank Bhagavan Hayagriva for having brought me here. Narayana, Narayana" ********************************************************************* adiyEn, -Srinath C. -------------------------------------------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti-list@yahoogroups.com Archives: http://ramanuja.org/sv/bhakti/archives/ Your use of Yahoo!
