Dear Sri vaishnava perunthagaiyeer, In the previous post, we saw Raama being eulogized by viraadhan in his sthuthi of raama by referring the gajendhra mOksham episode. Now we will have the next verse and meaning, and few points on the same. PuRam kaaNa agam kaaNap podhu mugaththin aruL nOkkam IRangaatha thaamaraik kaN emperuman! Iyamputhiyaal ARam kaaththaRku unakku oruvar aarum thuNai inRi KaRangu aagum enath thiriya neeyEyO kadavaaithaan. Word by word meaning for few words: PuRam - outside, puRam kaNuthal means seeing from outside Agam - inside, house or household, mind or heart Iyampudhiyaal- solvathaal- being told KaRangu- kaRRaadi- kite Thiriya- suzhaRRa - whirl round and round Meaning: Oh! my lotus eyed Lord -thaamaraik kaN emperuman, You show your grace to all. You do not differentiate between persons as your bhakthaas and others. You look at them equally whether they have an outward devotion to you or very deep inner devotion [from the depths of their heart] [agam kaaNa] or no devotion to you. Oh! you are alone, without a companion, to share the load of protecting the dharmam [aRam kaaththaRku unakku oruvar aarum thuNai inRi]. You have to wander like a kite all over the places. I have sympathies on you, oh raama, for you have to roam like this kite to do that big work of protection of the dharmam. Points: 1.Viraadhan says indirectly, oh raama, you are the sole and soul of dharmam and its protection. In the previous verse he eulogized saying, when the elephant called paramE paramE, he only rushed to save the elephant, because it is his dharmam to save bhakthaas in distress. 2. On the neutrality of the lord or his aruL nOkku without distinction- thannadiyaar thiRaththagaththu thaamaraiyaaL aagilum sithaguraikkumEl ennadiyaar adhu seyyaar seidhaarEl nanRu seidhaar enbar pOlum mannudaiya vibheedaNarkaa madhiL ilangaith thisai nOkki malarkkaN vaiththa ennudaiya thiruvarangaRku anRiyum maRRoruvarku aaLaavarE periyaazhvar- 4-9-2 adiyaar thiRaththu agaththu- towards the servants - in the servants - in the capacity of these servants - in the outside of these servants sithagu- kuRRam - finding fault meaning: "oh lakshmi my dear consort, my home ruler, even if it is you to find fault with my bhakthaas in their actions, I will say what they do is RIGHT and they do these things correctly only [or perhaps I will it make right without even yourself knowing it]" - this is what it appears to me, oh sri rangaraaja, says azhvaar. These servants will not become servants except to that Lord at Srirangam who has set his eyes in the south towards srilanka, which he gave to that vibheeshana, castled nicely with fort and fortresses. Please note here, the Lord says my bhakthaas will not do any thing wrong. Such is his grace, that, even if it is a mistake that is not seen or noted by him. So viraadhan's words of aruL nOkku puRam kaaNa agam kaaNa gets a reflection here. Sri uththamoor swamy interprets this ennadiyaar adhu seyyaar as- hey ennadi yaar adhu seyyaar- hey, my pet wife - lakshmi- who will not do this- you have come here to find fault- oh no, what they did is correct because they are my bhakthaas. 3. "Those who are devoted to me will be given more, those who are not will not be given any thing, that kind of distinction I do not have - this kEsavan has the heart to give equally to all, and in abundance only" says the lord. Refer paasuram 50 in periya thiruvanthathi - Pirinthu onRu nOkkaadhu thammudaiya pinnE thirinthu uzhalum sinthanaiyaar thammai purinthu orukaal aavaa? Ena irangaar anthO! validhE kol? Maavaai piLanthaan manam. 4. viraadhan has developed such a deep devotion, in a small time, since he has understood that person standing in front is that supreme lord, he takes pity on him and says "oh lord you do not an assistant or companion to share the load of protecting that dharmam". See even though they are harsh and hard in nature for a long long time, once they come into the grace of that lord, their entire character changes in less than a fraction of a second. Good example is here in viraadhan. Now let us have the next verse in viraadhan's raama sthuthi- ThuRappathE thozhil aagath thOnRinOr thOnRiyakkaal MarappathE thammai athu enRu aagil maRRu avar pOl PiRapparO? Evarkkum thaam peRRa padham peRal aridhO IRappadhE piRappadhE enum viLaiyaattu inidhu uganthOi!
