Significance of Lord Sri RanganAthA's Sleeping Posture
From the Bhakti List Archives

Dear Sri BhagavathAs, Our Lord SriRanganAtha is actually in Yoga-Nidra posture and appears to be sleeping. As the Lord declared in the Bhagavadgita 'KarmaNyEvAdhikArasthe..' he wants to depict that Jiva's have complete freedom of choice in deciding their karma or actions but not with respect to the phalam. He wants to be a silent sAkshi. Our Lord does not want to interfere in the karma adhikaram of the Jivas. This is in AdiYen's opinion the significance of the Lord's reclining posture. This is with regard to ordinary JivAs blinded by mamakaram. But with respect to surrendered JivA's he will be ever vigilant and ready to guide and help in all respects.
