My recollection of Amritam story is that the churning
occurs long before Rama and Vali. Vishnu takes the
form of Kurma (Turtle) to hold the Meru mountain.
When Amritham is distributed, Rahu and Ketu get some,
sitting along with devas. Mohini )Vishnu) distributes
the Amritam.
In Puranas, some of the mythological heroes
occasionally occur during several periods.
Rama avtara is preced by several avataras:
Matsya, Koorma, Varaha,Narasimha, Vamana, in reverse
order.
My knowledge of Bagavatham is from Katha-Kalshepams
(Sadogopacharya's) in Triplicane in the early 1940's
and Tamil books.
I think poet Kampan was introduced to Ramayana in the
same fashion. I gather, Kampan's version differs from
Valmiki's on several occasions (poetic liberty).
