SrimathE RaamAnujAya Nama:

Dear BhakthAs:

With prayers to Swamy NammAzhwAr and Sri MaNavALa MaamunigaL,
adiyEn starts the coverage of the first passuram of Tiruvaimozhi
NooRRandhAthi(TVMN) paasurams in this new series of postings:

uyarvE Paran padiyai uLLathellAm kaNDu
  uyar-vEda nErkoNDuraitthu--mayarvEthum
vaarAmal manidarai vaazhvikkum MaaRan soll
  vErAhavE ViLayum Veedu -----TVMN (1)

(meaning): Swamy NammAzhwAr experienced the lofty
svarUpam and svabhAvam of the Supreme Lord personally
and shared those experiences with the strength of pramANams
of the Vedams for the benefit of human beings to live
their lives feee from the harm of nescience. Liberation from
the cycles of births and deaths (Moksham ) will be gained
by those , who follow the upadEsam of Swamy NammAzhwAr
in His Thiruvaimozhi first pathikam . Just as the tree
will not arise without its root , Moksham can not
result without Swamy NammAzhwAr's grace stored in
his aruLiccheyalkaL.

This TVMN takes off with the first word of the First
paasuram of TVM ( UyarvaRa: TVM 1.1.1 ) and concludes with
the first word of the next Thirumozhi( Veedu: TVM 1.2.1).
The Naamam of MaaRan is included in the Paasuram as
per the rules of construction of the TVMN set by
MM for Himself .

The Uyir Karutthu for this first ten paasurams of TVM
is :" Paran Padi" , which is the code for the limitless ,
auspcious Svarupa-SvabhAvikangaLs of the Supreme Lord ,
Sriman NaarAyaNan. Swamy Desikan referred to the subject
matter of the first ten paasurams of TVM as the Supreme
Lord being known as "SarvasmAth Paran "(The Supreme Most
beyond any deity or Tatthvam).

The echos of the tatthvams elaborated by Sanskritic Vedams
are heard in the Tamil Vedam of Swamy NammAzhwAr .This unity
of thought is referred to as " Ubhaya VedAntha Iykya KaNDyam "
Sri MM describes this unity of thought by choice of the words
in this TVMN : "Uyar Vedam nEr KoNDu Uraitthu" . Sri MM instructs
us that Swamy NammAzhwAr's dhivya Prabhandham is the distillation of
the essence of the Sanskritic Vedam as PramANam and has
total consonance with the Veda manthrams.

AchArya RaamAnujA's Sri BhAshyam is recognized to
have been influenced by the PramANams of AzhwAr's
aruLicheyalkaLs.Sri Bhaashyam has four chapters
( SamanyaadhyAyam , AvirOdhAdhyAyam , SaadhanAdhyAyam
and PhalAdhyAyam ). Commentators have concluded that
the first 11 paasurams of ThiruvAimozhi summarized
here by Sri MM in his first paasuram of TVMN links up
with the coverage of the first two chapters of Brahma
Soothrams(Paran Padi) as elaborated by Sri RaamAnujA
in His Sri BhAshyam. "Paran Padi " ( The Svaroopa-SvabhAvams )
is thus picked out by Sri MM as the heart beat of the First
Pathikam.

The key words and passages from the first six paasurams of
the first pathikam of TVM from which Sri MM identified "Paran padi"
as the Uyir Karutthu according to Dr.V.N.VedAntha Desikan are:

1." Uyarnalam-udayavan " ( The SarvasmAth Paran , who is
the abode of Samastha KalyANa GuNams that can not
be surpassed . His padi is that of a Paran/Supreme Being ).

2." PoRiyuNarvavai ilan " ( His JnAnanda Svaroopam can not be
comprehended by the five organs of senses . He is ParAth Paran).

3. " Muzhu Nalan" ( He is PoorNa Aanndha Svaroopan).

4. " Ozhivilan ; Parantha nalanudaiorvan " ( One has both
Nithya VibhUthi and dhivyAthma Svaroopam ).

5. "AamavayAyai ninRavan" / Aamm avai Aayi avai aayi ninRAn:
( Sa yEva Sarvam : He is every thing ; That which is past
is Him and that which is yet to happen is Him ).

6."YenRum Ohr iyalvodu ninRa yem Thidar"( That Supreme Being
which "is unchangable and transcendental to all observed
changes of the world").

7. "udal misai uyir yenak-karenthengum paranthuLan"
(" He pervades everything in and out .He is the soul
for the body of every being and every thing..").

8. " Para Paran": ( He is the transcendent Supreme One
over the reputed Brahma and Rudran ).

9. "Karantengum Paranthu uLan " (He is present in everything ,
in every place , in every most subtle material as well ).
